Efficacy of the endotracheal tube compared to the laryngeal mask in post-operative adult patients in reducing pain, bronchaspiration, and nausea.

Abstract

The study is quantitative in nature, and the study design is a systematic review, with a population consisting of 18 articles, and 10 articles were selected for the study sample; the sources used were Cochrane Library, British Medical Journal, PubMed, Lancet, Wiley Online Library, Health Systems Evidence, Public Health Group, Scielo, and Epistemonikos; with critical evaluation under the GRADE method for each article; of which 30% were from Lebanon, and 10% from China, Iran, India, Australia, Colombia, and Canada, as appropriate; in terms of the type of study, 70% were quantitative and 30% qualitative; the design was 50% clinical trials, 40% systematic reviews, and 10% meta-analysis. This systematic review concludes that 70% of the articles demonstrate that the laryngeal mask is more effective than the endotracheal tube, as it presents fewer complications in post-operative adult patients in reducing pain, bronchoaspiration, and nausea. In contrast, 20% conclude that both the endotracheal tube and the laryngeal mask are equally effective in post-operative patients in reducing pain, bronchoaspiration, and nausea, and only 10% found that the endotracheal tube is more effective.

El estudio es de tipo cuantitativo, el diseño de estudio es una revisión sistemática, con una población constituida de 18 artículos y se consideró 10 artículos para la muestra del estudio; el instrumento fue Cochrane Library, British Medical Journal, PubMed, Lancet, Wiley Online Library, Health Systems Evidence, Public Health Group, Scielo y Epistemonikos; teniendo en cuenta la evaluación crítica bajo el método de GRADE para cada artículo; de los cuales el 30% fueron de Líbano y el 10% de China, Irán, India, Australia, Colombia y Canadá, según corresponde; en cuanto al tipo de estudio, el 70% fueron cuantitativos y el 30% cualitativos; el diseño fue 50% ensayo clínico, 40% revisión sistemática, y 10% meta-análisis. Esta revisión sistemática concluye que el 70% de los artículos demuestra que la máscara laríngea es más eficaz que el tubo endotraqueal, ya que presenta menos complicaciones en pacientes adultos postoperados en la reducción del dolor, broncoaspiración y náuseas. A diferencia del 20% que concluye que tanto el tubo endotraqueal como la máscara laríngea en pacientes postoperados en la reducción del dolor, broncoaspiración y náuseas son igual de eficaces y sólo el 10% evidenció que el tubo endotraqueal es más eficaz.
