Knowledge and nursing practice in closed circuit bronchial secretion aspiration in the intensive care unit of a national hospital in Lima, 2023

Abstract

The closed-circuit secretion aspiration technique is an invasive procedure that does not require disconnecting the patient; It is performed for the extraction of secretions from the bronchial tree in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. The role of the nursing professional is essential and fundamental within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) teams; therefore, it is important to have adequate knowledge and practice in the management of closed-circuit secretion aspirations; avoiding complications in the patient. Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and nursing practice in aspiration of bronchial secretions with closed circuit in the Intensive Care Unit of a National Hospital in Lima. Material and methods: The approach will be quantitative, correlational level, descriptive non-experimental observational design and cross section. The study population will be made up of 60 nurses from the Intensive Care Unit of a National Hospital in Lima. To measure the knowledge variable, the questionnaire prepared by Cahua will be applied through the judgment of 8 experts, validity of r ≥ 0.20 through the Pearson R formula and reliability of K-R ≥ 0.5 measured by the Kuder Richardson Statistical test and for to measure the practical variable, a Checklist will be applied, which has a validity of r ≥0.20 through the Pearson R formula and a reliability of K-R ≥ 0.5 through the Kuder Richardson Statistical test. The instruments will be delivered in person, with prior signed informed consent. A descriptive and correlational statistical analysis will be carried out. To determine the relationship between the variables, the Chi Square statistical parameter will be used, since, by their nature, they are ordinal qualitative variables and to analyze the correlation coefficient tests, the Spearman Rho statistician will be used

La técnica de aspiración de secreciones con circuito cerrado es un procedimiento invasivo donde no precisa desconectar al paciente; se realiza para la extracción de secreciones del árbol bronquial en pacientes sometidos en ventilación mecánica. La función del profesional de enfermería es imprescindible y fundamental dentro de los equipos de Unidad Cuidados Intensivos (UCI), por tanto, es importante tener conocimiento y practica adecuada en el manejo de las aspiraciones de secreciones con circuito cerrado; evitando complicaciones en el paciente. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y la práctica de enfermería en aspiración de secreciones bronquiales con circuito cerrado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un Hospital Nacional de Lima. Material y métodos: El enfoque será cuantitativo, nivel correlacional, de diseño observacional no experimental descriptivo y corte transversal. La población de estudio estará conformada de 60 enfermeras (os) de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un Hospital Nacional de Lima. Para medir la variable de conocimiento se aplicará el cuestionario elaborado por Cahua a través del juicio de 8 expertos, validez de r ≥ 0.20 a través de la fórmula de R de Pearson y confiabilidad de K-R ≥ 0.5 medida por la prueba Estadística Kuder Richardson y para medir la variable práctica se aplicará una Lista de Cotejo, que tiene una validez de r ≥0.20 a través de la fórmula de R de Pearson y una confiabilidad de K-R ≥ 0.5 a través de la prueba Estadística Kuder Richardson. Los instrumentos se entregarán de forma presencial, previo consentimiento informado firmado. Se llevará a cabo un análisis estadístico descriptivo y correlacional. Para determinar la relación entre las variables se usará el parámetro estadístico Chi Cuadrado, ya que, por su naturaleza, son variables cualitativas ordinales y para analizar las pruebas del coeficiente de correlación se empleará el estadígrafo Rho de Spearman.
