Cognitive impairment and dependence on activities of daily living of patients with schizophrenia at Hospital II-E Huariaca, Cerro De Pasco, 2021

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a mental illness classified as severe, it is estimated that 21 million people in the world suffer from it, in Peru it is estimated that 280,000 people were diagnosed, it affects the cognitive processes responsible for normal mental functioning, the patient with schizophrenia presents alterations in the areas of thought, language, perception, memory, etc., as a consequence the resolution capacity of the basic activities of daily living (ABVD) such as eating, bathing, moving, dressing, is modified, requiring partial or total help to carry them out, then it becomes a person with a certain degree of dependence. The research method is deductive, with a quantitative approach, the type of research is basic, with a non-experimental observational design, descriptive correlational cross-sectional. The population is 50 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, hospitalized in the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for Chronic Patients of Hospital II-E Huariaca. The instruments are the Brief Neuropsychological Assessment Scale in Spanish (NEUROPSI) to assess cognitive impairment, and the Barthel Index that assesses the degree of dependence based on ADLs.

La esquizofrenia una enfermedad mental catalogada como severa, se calcula que 21 millones de personas en el mundo la padecen, en el Perú se estima que 280,000 personas fueron diagnosticadas, afecta los procesos cognitivos responsables del funcionamiento mental normal, el paciente con esquizofrenia presenta alteración en las áreas del pensamiento, lenguaje, percepción, memoria, etc., como consecuencia se modifica la capacidad resolutiva de las actividades básicas de la vida diaria (ABVD) como comer, bañarse, moverse, vestirse, requiriendo ayuda parcial o total para realizarlas, entonces se convierte en una persona con cierto grado de dependencia. El método de investigación es deductivo, con enfoque cuantitativo, tipo de investigación es básica, con diseño observacional no experimental, descriptivo correlacional de corte transversal. la población son 50 pacientes con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia, hospitalizados en el Centro de Rehabilitación Integral de Pacientes Crónicos del Hospital II-E Huariaca. Los instrumentos son la Escala de Evaluación Neuropsicológica Breve en español (NEUROPSI) para evaluar el deterioro cognitivo, y el Indice de Barthel que valora el grado de dependencia en función de las ABVD.
