Knowledge and attitude towards treatment adherence in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in a health center in Lima, 2024

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a pathology that reports the highest mortality rate worldwide, specifically in young people, adults and older adults, and is considered an important health problem. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude towards adherence to treatment in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in a health center in Lima, 2024. Methodology: Quantitative, applied, non-experimental, correlational study using the hypothetical-deductive method on a sample of 80 patients, using two questionnaires as data collection instruments. Results: The predominant level of knowledge was medium in 56.2% of the patients. Likewise, attitudes towards the treatment showed acceptance in 41.3% of the individuals, indifference in 40% and rejection in 18.7%. The study variables yielded a Spearman coefficient of 0.813 and a bilateral significance p = 0.000. Conclusion: There was a high and positive correlation between knowledge and attitude towards adherence to treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

La tuberculosis pulmonar es una patología que reporta la mayor tasa de mortalidad a nivel mundial, específicamente en población juvenil, adulta y adulta mayor, considerándose una problemática sanitaria importante. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el conocimiento y la actitud hacia la adherencia a el tratamiento en pacientes con tuberculosis pulmonar en un centro de salud de Lima, 2024. Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo, aplicado, no experimental, correlacional que empleó el método hipotético – deductivo sobre una muestra conformada por 80 pacientes, empleando dos cuestionarios como instrumentos. Resultados: El nivel de conocimientos predominante fue medio en el 56.2% de los pacientes. Asimismo, las actitudes hacia el tratamiento demostraron aceptación en el 41.3% de los individuos, indiferencia en el 40% y rechazo en el 18.7%. Las variables de estudio arrojaron un coeficiente de Spearman de 0.813 y una significancia bilateral p = 0.000. Conclusión: Existió una correlación alta y positiva entre los conocimientos y la actitud hacia la adherencia al tratamiento de la tuberculosis pulmonar.
