Efficacy of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists in patients with acute asthmatic crisis

Abstract

Objective: Systematize and analyze the effectiveness of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists in patients with acute asthma attacks. Material and methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading, using the GRADE method to identify their level of evidence. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen, systematic reviews, quasi-experimental and case-control studies, and of the total of 10 reviewed articles, 40% (n=4/10) of these show that the effectiveness of Performing nebulizations with β_agonists continuously in patients with acute asthma attacks is positive, especially in cases for the treatment of moderate-severe asthma, it helps with lower administration cost and shorter stay in the emergency room while 60% of the studies analyzed tell us that there is no significant relevance. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is no significant relevance in the effectiveness of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists, since 60% of the studies analyzed support the equivalence of the results of continuous and intermittent nebulization in the treatment of acute asthma.

Objetivo: Sistematizar y analizar la eficacia de las nebulizaciones con β_agonistas en forma continua en pacientes con crisis asmática aguda. Material y métodos: Revisión Sistemática observacional y retrospectivo, la búsqueda se ha restringido a artículos con texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica, utilizando el método GRADE para identificar su grado de evidencia. Resultados: En la selección definitiva se eligieron 10 artículos, revisiones sistemáticas, cuasi – experimentales y estudios de caso y control, y del total de 10 artículos revisados, el 40%(n=4/10)de estos, muestran que la eficacia de realizar nebulizaciones con β_agonistas en forma continua en pacientes con crisis asmática aguda es positiva, en especial en los casos para el tratamiento de asma moderado-severo, ayuda con respecto a menor costo de administración y menor tiempo de estancia en la emergencia mientras que el 60% de los estudios analizados nos refiere que no existe relevancia significativa. Conclusiones: Se concluye que no existe relevancia significativa en la efectividad de las nebulizaciones con β_agonistas en forma continua, ya que el 60 % de estudios analizados apoya la equivalencia del resultado de la nebulización continua e intermitente en el tratamiento del asma aguda.
