Effective interventions for fall prevention in older adults

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence on effective preventive interventions against falls in older adults. Methodology: Systematic, observational and retrospective review. The review was limited to articles with full text only, and the selected articles were subjected to critical reading. In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen. Results After the exhaustive analysis, it was determined that, of the total number of articles analyzed, 80% affirm that physical exercise is one of the most effective prevention interventions to reduce the number of falls in this population that has a high risk and 20% of studies adds other aspects of multifactorial care. Conclusions: It was possible to determine the effectiveness of preventive interventions against falls in older adults, although due to the absence of methodological unification for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the interventions, regulations cannot be structured for their large-scale application.

Objetivo: Sistematizar la evidencia sobre las intervenciones eficaces preventivas contra las caídas en adulto mayor. Metodología: Revisión Sistemática, observacional y retrospectivo. La revisión se encuadró solo a artículos con texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica. En la selección definitiva se eligieron 10 artículos. Resultados Luego del análisis exhaustivo se determinó que, del total de artículos analizados, el 80% afirma que el ejercicio físico es una las intervenciones de prevención más eficaces, para disminuir el número de caídas en esta población que tiene un riesgo elevado y el 20% de estudios suma otros aspectos de atención multifactorial. Conclusiones: Se pudo determinar la eficacia de las intervenciones preventivas contra las caídas de los adultos mayores, aunque por la ausencia de la unificación metodológica para la evaluación de efectividad de las intervenciones no se puede estructurar normativas para su aplicación a gran escala.
