Knowledge about the care of the Port-A-Cath catheter, nursing professional, oncohematology service, Lima hospital, 2020

Abstract

Introduction: According to the WHO (World Health Organization), in 2018, over 18 million new cancer cases and 9.6 million deaths due to this disease were recorded. The level of knowledge regarding the care of the Port-a-Cath catheter refers to the information stored through experience, as well as the nurse's expressed response regarding all the information they possess concerning the management of the Port-a-Cath catheter. This includes general aspects, maintenance, use, and prevention of complications.

Objective: To determine the level of knowledge regarding the care of the Port-a-Cath catheter among nursing professionals in the oncohematology service at a hospital in Lima, 2020.

Methodology: This research has a descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective methodological design. Furthermore, the study will have a quantitative approach. The population will consist of 60 nurses from a hospital in Lima with approximately 20 years of experience in catheterization, belonging to two healthcare services (emergency and oncology). They will be selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling method will be non-probabilistic and convenience-based.

The data collection technique to be used in the fieldwork will be a survey, which will efficiently and effectively collect a significant amount of data. The survey will focus on analyzing the level of knowledge regarding the care of the Port-a-Cath catheter among nursing professionals in the oncohematology service at a hospital in Lima. The data obtained will be tabulated and statistically processed using SPSS 22 and Excel statistical software.

"Introducción: Según la OMS (Organización Mundial de la Salud), ha registrado el 2018, más de 18 millones de nuevos casos de cáncer y 9.6 millones muertes por esta enfermedad. Nivel de conocimiento sobre el cuidado del catéter port-a-cath: conjunto de información almacenada mediante la experiencia, respuesta expresada de la enfermera sobre toda aquella información que refiera poseer en relación al manejo del catéter Port-a-Carth, en torno a los aspectos generales mantenimiento y uso, así como prevención de complicaciones. Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre el cuidado del catéter Port – a–Cath, Enfermería, servicio oncohematología, hospital de Lima, 2020. Metodología: la presente investigación tiene un diseño metodológico de tipo descriptivo, de corte transversal, prospectivo. Además, este estudio tendrá un enfoque cuantitativo la población estará constituida por 60 enfermeras de un hospital de Lima con alrededor de 20 años de experiencia en cateterismo, pertenecientes a dos servicios de atención (emergencias y oncología). estas serán seleccionadas de acuerdo a los criterios de exclusión e inclusión previamente definidos El muestreo será no probabilístico de tipo censal, por conveniencia. La técnica a utilizarse en el trabajo de campo será la encuesta, con la cual se obtendrá una cantidad importante de datos de forma óptima y eficaz. Enfocada en el análisis del nivel de conocimiento sobre el cuidado del catéter Port – a–Cath, Enfermería, servicio oncohematología, hospital de Lima, Los datos obtenidos serán tabulados y procesados estadísticamente, aplicando el paquete estadístico SPSS 22, y Excel."
