Knowledge about self-care and the practice of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Juan Pérez Carranza Health Center, Lima 2023

Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to “determine how the level of knowledge is related to the practice of self-care in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Juan Pérez Carranza del Cercado health center in Lima, 2023.” Methodology was quantitative, hypothetical - deductive, applied, nonexperimental, correlational, and transversal. The instrument of González (62) and Sánchez (63) was used to collect information on the variables. The SPSS v-25 program was used to process the data. The results reveal that 41.2% of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have a low level of knowledge, 29.4% have a medium level of knowledge and 29.4% have a high level of knowledge. Also, 50.6% of self-care practices are poor, 23.5% are regular, and 25.9% are good. The pathology dimension of diabetes is significantly related to the self-care practices variable with the significance value p=0.000; The eating habits dimension is significantly related to the self-care practices variable with a significance value of p=0.010, the physical activity dimension is significantly related to the self-care practices variable with a significance value of p=0.001, and the complication prevention dimension is significantly related to the self-care practices variable with a significance value of p=0.010. significantly relates to the self-care practices variable with values of p=0.005. In conclusion, there is a statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the practice of self-care in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Juan Pérez Carranza del Cercado health center in Lima, in the year 2023. Rho = 0.408 and significance value p =0.000.

La presente tesis, tuvo por objetivo “determinar como el nivel de conocimiento se relaciona con la práctica de autocuidado en los pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 del centro de salud Juan Pérez Carranza del Cercado de Lima, 2023”. Metodología fue cuantitativo, hipotético - deductivo, tipo aplicada, no experimental, correlacional y transversal. Empleó el instrumento de González (62) y Sánchez (63) para levantar información de las variables. Empleó el programa SPSS v-25 para procesar los datos. Los resultados revelan, que un 41,2% de los pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 tienen nivel de conocimiento bajo, un 29,4% tienen nivel de conocimiento medio y un 29,4% tienen nivel de conocimiento alto. También, las prácticas de autocuidado en un 50,6% son deficiente, en un 23,5% son regular y en un 25,9% son bueno. La dimensión patología de la diabetes se relaciona significativamente a la variable prácticas de autocuidado con el valor de significancia p=0,000; la dimensión hábitos alimenticios se relaciona significativamente a la variable prácticas de autocuidado con el valor de significancia p=0,010, la dimensión actividad física se relaciona significativamente a la variable prácticas de autocuidado con el valor de significancia p=0,001, la dimensión prevención de complicaciones se relaciona significativamente a la variable prácticas de autocuidado con valores de p=0,005. Existe relación estadísticamente significativa entre el nivel de conocimiento y la práctica de autocuidado en los pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 del centro de salud Juan Pérez Carranza del Cercado de Lima, en el año 2023. Rho= 0,408 y valor de significancia p=0,000.
