Correlation between nutritional status and hospital stay in adult hospitalized patients in the medicine ward of a national hospital in Lima during the year 2017

Abstract

Methods: A cross-sectional study of 80 patients from the Medicine service was conducted. Anthropometric, biochemical, and clinical diagnostic variables were used, which were related to hospital stay in groups of patients aged over and under 60 years. Results: The hospitalization time was greater in the group of patients over 60 years. All anthropometric and biochemical measures showed lower values in the group over 60 years. The hospitalization days were higher for cardiovascular diseases. Metabolic diseases had the highest weight, and renal diseases had the lowest weight.

Métodos: Estudio transversal de 80 pacientes del servicio de Medicina.Se utilizaron variables antropométricas ,bioquímicas y diagnósticos clínicos los cuales se relacionaron con la estancia hospitalaria en grupos de pacientes mayores y menores de 60 años. Resultados:el tiempo de hospitalización fue mayor en el grupo de pacientes mayor de 60 años.Todas las medidas antropométricas y bioquímicas mostraron valores menores en el grupo mayor de 60 años. Los días de hospitalización fueron mayores para las enfermedades cardíacas Las enfermedades metabólicas tuvieron el peso más alto y el peso mas bajo las enfermedades renales.
