Skeletal maturation according to the Baccetti method and stages of dental calcification according to Demirjian, evaluated in Cephalometric and Panoramic radiographs in Lima - 2023

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between skeletal maturation according to the Baccetti method and dental calcification stages according to Demirjian, as evaluated in cephalometric and panoramic radiographs in Lima 2023. A hypothetical-deductive methodology with a quantitative, basic, non-experimental, observational approach, with correlational scope and cross-sectional design, was used. The sample included 150 panoramic and cephalometric radiographs. The observation technique was used to assess both variables, and a data collection sheet was used as an instrument to record and organize the information. The results, obtained using the Chi-square test for the relationship between the stages according to Baccetti and Demirjian by tooth (33, 34, 35, 36, 37), revealed a significant association (p < 0.001) in all the evaluated teeth. This finding led to the rejection of the null hypothesis in all cases. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between skeletal maturation according to Baccetti and dental calcification stages according to Demirjian, as evaluated in cephalometric and panoramic radiographs.

El propósito de la investigación fue determinar la relación de la maduración esquelética según el método de Baccetti y estadios de calcificación dentaria según Demirjian, evaluadas en radiografías cefalométricas y panorámica en Lima 2023. Se empleó una metodología hipotético-deductiva, de enfoque cuantitativo, básico, no experimental, observacional con alcance correlacional y de corte transversal. La muestra incluyó 150 radiografías panorámicas y cefalométricas. Se utilizó la técnica de observación para evaluar ambas variables y una ficha de recolección de datos como instrumento para registrar y organizar la información. Los resultados, obtenidos mediante la Prueba de Chi-cuadrado para la relación entre los estadios según Baccetti y Demirjian, por pieza dentaria (33, 34, 35, 36, 37), revelaron una significativa asociación (p < 0.001) en todas las piezas dentarias evaluadas. Este hallazgo lleva al rechazo de la hipótesis nula en todos los casos. Se concluye que existe una relación significativa entre la maduración esquelética según Baccetti y los estadios de calcificación dentaria según Demirjian, evaluados en radiografías cefalométricas y panorámicas.
