Effectiveness of the educational program "I Know and Prevent TB" to improve the knowledge level of tuberculosis in 4th and 5th-grade secondary students at the N°5082 Sarita Colonia educational institution, Callao

Abstract

Objective To determine the effectiveness of the educational program “I know and prevent TB” to improve the level of knowledge of tuberculosis in 4th and 5th grade secondary school students of said Educational Institution. Material and method The present study has a quantitative approach, in terms of design it is a quasi-experimental and longitudinal study. The population was made up of 104 students from the 4th and 5th grades of secondary school. The survey was used as a technique and a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions was used as an instrument, which identified the level of knowledge before and after the application of the educational program. Results The T-Student statistical test for related samples was used, which determined the significant difference between the results of the pre-test and the post-test. To counter the hypothesis, a P value <0.05 was considered significant results. Before applying the educational program (pre-test), only 23% of students presented an adequate level of knowledge and 77% of them presented a level of knowledge between regular and low. Likewise, after the application of the educational program (post-test), all students (100%) presented a high level of knowledge. Conclusion The educational program “I know and prevent TB” was effective, completely increasing the level of knowledge about tuberculosis in the students.

Objetivo Determinar la efectividad del programa educativo “Conozco y prevengo la TB” para mejorar el nivel de conocimiento de la tuberculosis en estudiantes del 4to y 5to de secundaria de dicha Institución Educativa. Material y método El presente estudio es de enfoque cuantitativo, en cuanto al diseño es un estudio cuasi experimental y de corte longitudinal. La población estuvo conformada por 104 estudiantes del 4to y 5to de secundaria. Se utilizó como técnica la encuesta y como instrumento un cuestionario conformado por 15 preguntas, el cual identificó el nivel de conocimientos antes y después de la aplicación del programa educativo. Resultados Se utilizó la prueba estadística T- Student para muestras relacionadas, el cual determinó la diferencia significativa entre los resultados del pre test y el post test. Para contrarrestar la hipótesis se consideró como resultados significativos un valor P<0.05. Antes de aplicar el programa educativo (pre-test), sólo el 23% de estudiantes presentaron un nivel adecuado de conocimientos y el 77% de ellos presentaron un nivel de conocimiento entre regular y bajo. Asimismo, luego de la aplicación del programa educativo (post-test) la totalidad de estudiantes (100%) presentó un nivel alto de conocimientos. Conclusión El programa educativo “Conozco y prevengo la TB” fue efectivo, incrementado en su totalidad el nivel de conocimientos sobre tuberculosis en los estudiantes.
