Relationship between the location of lower third molars according to Pell & Gregory and their proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini in panoramic radiographs of patients aged 18 to 50 years treated at the radiological center Ceramax, 2022

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the location of lower third molars according to Pell and Gregory and the proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini in panoramic radiographs of patients aged 18 to 50 years treated at the Ceramax Radiological Center in 2022. Methodology: A cross-sectional, observational, correlational, and retrospective study was conducted with a sample of 150 panoramic radiographs and a total of 216 lower third molars. A data collection sheet was created to record gender, age group, location according to Pell and Gregory, and proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini. Results: The most frequent location according to Pell and Gregory was Class I Level A (53.2%), while the most frequent proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini was "There is contact between the root and the canal" (42.6%). It was determined that there is a statistically significant association (p = 0.000) between both variables. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant relationship between the location of lower third molars according to Pell and Gregory with gender and age group (p > 0.05). However, there was a statistically significant relationship between proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini with gender and age group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the location of lower third molars according to Pell and Gregory and proximity to the mandibular canal according to Ezoddini in panoramic radiographs of patients aged 18 to 50 years treated at the Ceramax Radiological Center in 2022.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar cuál es la relación entre la localización de terceros molares inferiores según Pell y Gregory y la proximidad al canal mandibular según Ezoddini en radiografías panorámicas de pacientes entre 18 a 50 años atendidos en el Centro Radiológico Ceramax durante el año 2022. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional, correlacional, retrospectivo y transversal en el cual se trabajó con una muestra de 150 radiografías panorámicas y un total de 216 terceras molares inferiores. Se elaboró una ficha de recolección de datos donde se registró el género, grupo etario, localización según Pell y Gregory y proximidad al canal mandibular según Ezoddini. Resultados: Se obtuvo que la localización más frecuente según Pell y Gregory fue la Clase I Nivel A (53.2%); mientras que la proximidad al canal mandibular según Ezoddini más frecuente fue la de “Hay contacto entre la raíz y el conducto” (42.6%). En tal sentido, se determinó que existe asociación estadísticamente significativa (p = 0.000) entre ambas variables. Por otro lado, se halló que no había relación estadísticamente significativa entre la localización de terceros molares inferiores según Pell y Gregory con el género y grupo etario (p > 0.05). Sin embargo, si había relación estadísticamente significativa entre la proximidad al canal mandibular según Ezoddini con el género y grupo etario (p <0.05). Conclusión: Existe relación entre la localización de terceros molares inferiores según Pell y Gregory y la proximidad al canal mandibular según Ezoddini en radiografías panorámicas de pacientes entre 18 a 50 años atendidos en el Centro Radiológico Ceramax durante el año 2022
