Quality of nursing care and level of satisfaction of the relatives of patients in the intensive care unit of a national hospital in the year 2021

Abstract

Humanized care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) goes beyond curing the disease. In the ICU, patients' families are often isolated, and their presence, unlike in other services, is fleeting, causing feelings of concern and distress among family members. For this reason, family-centered care for patients admitted to the ICU should not be marginalized but rather integrated into the care provided to critically ill patients, as family satisfaction significantly impacts the quality of care received by the patient.

It is worth noting that patient or family satisfaction results from the alignment between expectations of care and the lived experience. This congruence between what is expected and what is experienced helps shape the professional's image. It is also crucial for nursing professionals to understand patients' expectations to plan and deliver care with the highest possible quality.

El cuidado humanizado en la Unidad de Cuidado Intensivo (UCI) va más allá de curar la enfermedad, en la UCI los familiares de los pacientes son aislados y el acompañamiento a diferencia de otros servicios, es efímero, causando sentimientos de preocupación y angustias en el familiar. Por esta razón, el cuidado centrado en la familia del paciente internado en UCI no debe ser marginado sino debe formar parte del cuidado brindado al paciente crítico, pues la satisfacción del familiar va a determinar gran parte de la calidad del cuidado que recibe el paciente crítico. Cabe mencionar que la satisfacción paciente o familiar es el resultado de las expectativas del cuidado con la experiencia vivida al respecto. Esta congruencia de lo que se espera y de lo que se vivencias permitirá forjar la imagen del profesional, incluso es importante que el profesional de enfermería conozca sobre las expectativas de los pacientes para obtener la ventaja de planificar y dirigir los cuidados con la mayor calidad posible.
