Coping strategies and preoperative anxiety of surgical patients scheduled in the general surgery service of a public hospital in Lima, period 2023

Abstract

The present study is carried out with the objective: To determine the relationship between coping strategies and the level of anxiety of the surgical patient scheduled in the general surgery service of a public hospital in Lima period 2023". The methodology: hypothetical deductive method, non-experimental design, quantitative, descriptive, applied, correlational, cross-sectional; The sample consisted of 80 patients, using the Hamilton scale and the COPE-28 questionnaire as instruments, in the Spanish version of the COPE Brief, which have already been validated. these instruments have a high level of statistical reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.711 for the COPE-28 questionnaire and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.79 on the Hamilton scale; For the analysis and interpretation, Excel programs will be used and exported to the SPSS version 26 program where various methodological tests will be carried out in order to contrast the hypothesis proposed. Likewise, the Rho Spearman test will be applied to measure the correlation of the two study variables. It is concluded that there is an inverse and statistically significant relationship between coping strategies and preoperative anxiety (rho=-820, p<.001), i.e., the greater the use of coping strategies, the lower the level of anxiety in surgical patients.

El presente estudio se realiza con el objetivo: Determinar la relación entre las estrategias de afrontamiento y el nivel de ansiedad de los pacientes quirúrgicos programados en el servicio de cirugía general de un hospital público de Lima periodo 2023“. La metodología: método hipotético deductivo, diseño no experimental, cuantitativo, descriptivo, aplicado, correlacional, transversal; la muestra estuvo constituida por 80 pacientes, utilizando como instrumentos la escala de Hamilton y el cuestionario COPE-28, en la versión española del COPE Brief, que ya han sido validados. estos instrumentos tienen un alto nivel de confiabilidad estadística con un alfa de Cronbach de 0,711 para el cuestionario COPE-28 y un alfa de Cronbach de 0,79 en la escala de Hamilton; Para el análisis e interpretación, se utilizarán programas Excel y se exportarán al programa SPSS versión 26 donde se realizarán diversas pruebas metodológicas con el fin de contrastar la hipótesis planteada. Asimismo, se aplicará la prueba de Rho Spearman para medir la correlación de las dos variables de estudio. Se concluye que existe una relación inversa y estadísticamente significativa entre las estrategias de afrontamiento y la ansiedad preoperatoria (rho=-820, p<.001), es decir, a mayor uso de estrategias de afrontamiento, menor nivel de ansiedad en los pacientes quirúrgicos.
