Pneumatization of the maxillary sinus and partial edentulous evaluated in panoramic radiographs. Lime 2019.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the pneumatization of the maxillary sinus in partially edentulous posterosuperior patients evaluated through panoramic radiographs. Methodology: The population consisted of 172 panoramic radiographs, and the sample obtained using the finite population formula was 120, which allowed for results to be obtained using Chi-square and Pearson's Correlation. The following conclusions were drawn: In partially edentulous patients in the upper posterior sector, there is a higher percentage of grade 4 pneumatization, 42.9%. The most common number of missing teeth in partial edentulism is 5 teeth (33.3%), followed by 4 teeth (26.7%) and 3 teeth (25.8%). A higher degree of pneumatization is associated with the loss of 4 and 5 teeth in the majority of radiographs evaluated, with 44.4% to 50%. A statistical relationship was found (p<0.05). The degree of pneumatization is higher in females. A moderate positive and significant correlation (R=0.29, p=0.001) was found between the degree of pneumatization and the number of missing posterosuperior teeth. The hypothesis (H) was tested and confirmed: There is a direct relationship between maxillary sinus pneumatization and partially edentulous posterosuperior evaluated in panoramic radiographs. The null hypothesis (0) was rejected.

El presente estudio tiene por objetivo determinar la neumatización del seno maxilar en edéntulos parciales posterosuperior evaluados en radiografías panorámicas. Metodología: la población fue de 172 radiografías panorámicas y la muestra obtenida mediante fórmula de poblaciones finitas fue de 120, el cual nos permitió obtener resultados utilizando Chi cuadrado y Correlación de Pearson ,que nos llevan a las siguientes conclusiones: 1. Existe en pacientes parcialmente edéntulos superiores del sector posterior un mayor porcentaje del grado 4 de neumatización 42,9%. 2. El número de piezas dentarias ausentes en edéntulos parciales predominantemente es de 5 piezas (33.3%), 4 piezas (26.7%) y 3 piezas (25.8%). 3. Existe mayor grado de neumatización asociada a la pérdida de 4 y 5 piezas dentarias del total de radiografías evaluadas con el 44.4% a 50%. Se encontró relación estadística p<0,05. 4. El grado de neumatización asociada al sexo es mayor en el sexo femenino. 5. Existe una correlación moderada positiva y significativa (R=0,29. p=0.001) entre grado de neumatización y el número de piezas dentarias ausentes posterosuperior. Probándose la hipótesis (H): Existe relación directa entre la neumatización del seno maxilar y los edéntulos parciales posterosuperior evaluados en radiografías panorámicas. Negándose la hipótesis (0).
