Abstract

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of virtual reality glasses in dental fear in children aged 6 to 10 years undergoing dental treatments at the Sonrisa Segura Clinic, Los Olivos - Lima, 2023. The study method was hypothetical, with a quantitative approach and basic, prospective, and cross-sectional design; it was a quasi-experimental experimental design. The population consisted of 150 children aged 6 to 10 years who visited the Sonrisa Segura Clinic, and the sample included 50 children who met the selection criteria. The sample was divided into a control group [n=25] and an experimental group [n=25]. Results: In the control group, the fear evaluation before and after receiving dental treatment showed mostly low fear (76%) before and high fear (72%) after the treatment, respectively. In the experimental group, the fear evaluation before and after receiving dental treatment showed mostly high fear (76%) before and low fear (96%) after the treatment, respectively. Additionally, inferential analysis confirmed that the experimental group had a higher average rank than the control group, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is significant effectiveness of virtual reality glasses in reducing dental fear in the children who participated and underwent dental treatments

Objetivo. Determinar la efectividad de las gafas de realidad virtual en el miedo dental de los niños de 6 a 10 años sometidos a tratamientos odontológicos en la Clínica Sonrisa Segura, Los Olivos - Lima, 2023. El método del estudio fue el hipotético, de enfoque cuantitativo y de tipo básica, prospectivo y transversal; de diseño experimental cuasi experimental. La población estuvo constituida por 150 niños de 6 a 10 años que acudieron a la clínica Sonrisa Segura; y la muestra estuvo conformada por 50 niños, que cumplieron con los criterios de selección; y fue dividida en grupo de control [n=25] y grupo experimental [n=25]). Resultados, se muestra que en el grupo control, la evaluación del miedo antes y después de recibir el tratamiento odontológico fue en mayoría, bajo miedo (76%) y alto miedo (72%), respectivamente; en el grupo experimental, la evaluación del miedo antes y después de recibir tratamiento odontológico fue en mayoría, alto miedo (76%) y bajo miedo (96%), respectivamente. Además, el análisis inferencial constató que el grupo experimental tuvo un promedio de rango mayor que el grupo control, con un p-valor de 0.000 (p<0.05). Se concluyó que existe efectividad significativa de las gafas de realidad virtual sobre el miedo dental de los niños participantes y sometidos a tratamientos odontológicos.
