Relationship between anxiety and temporomandibular disorder in people of the city of Huari, Ancash 2021

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between anxiety and temporomandibular disorders in the population of the city of Huari, Ancash, in 2021. The approach was quantitative with a deductive, non-experimental, relational method, where 383 residents of the city of Huari were selected through random probabilistic sampling. The technique used was a survey, where the Zung test and the Fonseca anamnesis index were applied to assess the levels of anxiety and temporomandibular disorders, respectively. It was found that 86.1% of the residents of Huari had normal levels of anxiety, while 12.5% had mild anxiety, and 1.5% had moderate anxiety. The majority were female, and 52.5% had normal anxiety levels. The largest group was aged between 30 and 45 years, with 70% showing normal anxiety levels. On the other hand, 48% of the residents of Huari did not present any prevalence of temporomandibular disorders, while 27.9% had mild, 20.5% had moderate, and 3.6% had severe disorders. Most residents of Huari were female, and 27.3% did not have severe temporomandibular disorder. Additionally, the majority were aged 30 to 45 years and did not have severe temporomandibular disorders (43.6%). It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between anxiety and temporomandibular disorders in the residents of Huari.

El propósito del estudio fue determinar la relación entre la ansiedad y los trastornos temporomandibulares en los pobladores de la ciudad de Huari, Ancash en el año 2021. El enfoque fue cuantitativo con un método deductivo, no experimental, relacional, donde participaron 383 pobladores de la ciudad de Huari, elegidos a través de un muestreo probabilístico aleatorio. La técnica utilizada fue la encuesta en donde se aplicó el test de Zung y el índice anamnésico de Fonseca donde se evaluaron el nivel de ansiedad y trastornos temporomandibulares respectivamente. Se encontró que el 86.1% de pobladores de la ciudad de Huari, obtuvieron un nivel de ansiedad normal, mientras que, el 12.5% obtuvieron un grado leve y el 1.5% obtuvieron un nivel moderado. La mayoría fueron de sexo femenino y obtuvieron un nivel de ansiedad normal (52,5%), además el mayor grupo representativo tienen entre 30 a 45 años de edad y obteniendo un nivel de ansiedad normal (70%). Por otro lado, el 48% de pobladores de la ciudad de Huari, no presenta una prevalencia de trastornos temporomandibulares, mientras que, el 27.9% obtuvieron una prevalencia de trastornos temporomandibulares leve, el 20.5% moderado y el 3.6% obtuvieron un nivel severo. La mayoría de pobladores de la ciudad de Huari, son de sexo femenino y no presentan un nivel de severidad de trastornos temporomandibulares (27.3%). Además, la mayoría tiene entre 30 a 45 años de edad y no presenta un nivel de severidad de trastornos temporomandibulares (43.6%). Se concluye que existe relación significativa entre la ansiedad y los trastornos temporomandibulares en los pobladores de la ciudad de Huari
