Knowledge of first-time mothers about basic newborn care at the Juan Pablo II Maternal and Child Center in the Villa El Salvador district, 2020

Abstract

The objective of the study is to determine the level of knowledge of first-time mothers about basic care of the newborn at the Juan Pablo II Maternal and Child Center in the district of Villa el Salvador, 2020. Material and method: It is a quantitative, descriptive, cross section, the sample was 85 mothers. The survey was used as a technique and the questionnaire as an instrument. Results: 47.06% of mothers have average knowledge about basic care of the newborn; 28.24% have high knowledge and 24.71% have low knowledge. Conclusions: The level of knowledge of new mothers about basic care of the newborn according to the results obtained was of a regular level. Likewise, it was found that the level of knowledge about newborn feeding obtained a regular level for the most part, in the same way regarding newborn hygiene their knowledge reached regular levels. Finally, the level of knowledge about complementary care, in the Juan Pablo II Maternal and Child Center of the District of Villa el Salvador, 2020, on the part of the mothers is at a regular level in the majority.

El objetivo del estudio es determinar el nivel de conocimiento de las madres primerizas sobre los cuidados básicos del recién nacido en el Centro Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II del distrito de Villa el Salvador, 2020. Material y método: Es una investigación cuantitativa, descriptiva, de corte transversal, la muestra fueron 85 madres. Se utilizó como técnica la encuesta y como instrumento el cuestionario. Resultados: el 47.06% de las madres presentan un conocimiento medio sobre los cuidados básicos del recién nacido; el 28.24% presenta un conocimiento alto y el 24.71% presenta un conocimiento bajo. Conclusiones: El nivel de conocimiento de las madres primerizas sobre los cuidados básicos del recién nacido según los resultados obtenidos fue de nivel regular. Así mismo se halló que el nivel de conocimiento sobre la alimentación del recién nacido, obtuvo un nivel regular en su mayoría, de igual forma en cuanto a la higiene del recién nacido sus conocimientos alcanzaron niveles regulares. Finalmente, el nivel de conocimiento sobre los cuidados complementarios, en el Centro Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II del Distrito de Villa el Salvador, 2020, por parte de las madres se halla en un nivel regular en la mayoría.
