Effectiveness of the Educational Program “Clean Hands Save Lives” in the knowledge, attitudes and practices of hand hygiene in nursing staff in a clinic in Chiclayo, 2023

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the educational program “Clean hands save lives” on the knowledge, attitudes and practices of hand hygiene in nursing staff in a clinic in Chiclayo 2023. The method was hypothetical-deductive with a quantitative approach. applied, preexperimental design, with a census sample, non-probabilistic sampling, made up of 114 nursing collaborators, the observation technique was applied and the instruments were questionnaires and observation lists, with prior informed consent. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and the educational program, where the significance value (sig. = 0.000) is less than the theoretical significance value (α=0.05), where the educational program is effective in improving knowledge. , in terms of attitude and educational program, there is no relationship because the observed significance value (sig. = 0.790) is greater than the theoretical significance value (α=0.05), where the educational program is not effective in improve attitudes, and there is a relationship between practices and educational program, at the observed significance value (sig. = 0.000) is lower than the theoretical significance value (α=0.05), where the educational program is effective in improving practices hand hygiene in nursing staff. Concluding that, the educational program applied was effective in favorably modifying the knowledge and practice of hand hygiene, failing to modify the attitudes of the personnel studied since continuous monitoring and permanent education in healthcare collaborators is required to create a culture of hand hygiene.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo: Determinar la efectividad del programa educativo “Manos limpias salvan vidas” en los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de higiene de manos en el personal de enfermería en una clínica de Chiclayo, 2023. El método fue hipotético-deductivo con enfoque cuantitativo, aplicada, de diseño preexperimental, con muestra censal, muestreo no probabilístico, conformada por 114 colaboradores de enfermería, se aplicó la técnica de observación y los instrumentos fueron cuestionarios y listas de observación, previo consentimiento informado. Los resultados mostraron que existe relación significativa entre conocimiento y programa educativo, donde el valor de significancia (sig. = 0,000) es menor al valor de la significancia teórica (α=0,05), donde el programa educativo es efectivo en mejorar los conocimientos, en cuanto a actitud y programa educativo, no existe relación debido a que el valor de significancia observada (sig. = 0,790) es mayor al valor de la significancia teórica (α=0,05), donde el programa educativo no es efectivo en mejorar las actitudes, y existe relación entre prácticas y programa educativo, al valor de significancia observada (sig. = 0,000) es menor al valor de la significancia teórica (α=0,05), donde el programa educativo es efectivo en mejorar las prácticas de higiene de manos en el personal de enfermería. Concluyendo que el programa educativo aplicado fue efectivo al modificar favorablemente el conocimiento y práctica de higiene de manos, no logrando modificar actitudes del personal estudiado ya que se requiere de seguimiento continuo y educación permanente en colaboradores asistenciales para crear una cultura de higiene de manos.
