Comparison of two methods (knebelman method and Willis method) for the determination of the vertical occlusal dimension in adult patients of the Odontofresh dental clinic in the year 2022

Objective: The aim of this research was to compare the occlusal vertical dimension as determined by the Knebelman method and the Willis method in adult patients. Methodology: An inductive method with a quantitative approach was applied. The research was correlational. The sample consisted of 66 adult patients treated at the Odontofresh Dental Clinic, where measurements were taken according to the Knebelman and Willis methods, as well as determining the distance between the base of the nose and the chin. Results: It was found that the average distance between the base of the nose and the chin was 50.67 mm in women and 51.21 mm in men. According to the Knebelman method, the most accurate results were 64.03 mm in women and 64.94 mm in men. According to the Willis method, the results were 48.7 mm for women and 4.39 mm for men. The Wilcoxon signed-rank statistical test showed a significance of 0.000 and 0.002 for the Knebelman and Willis methods, respectively. Conclusion: There are significant differences between the occlusal vertical dimension and those determined by the Knebelman and Willis methods in adult patients at Odontofresh Clinic in 2022.
Resumen
Objetivo El objetivo de esta investigación fue comparar la dimensión vertical oclusal con la determinada por el método de Knebelman y el método de Willis en pacientes adultos Metodología: Se aplicó un método inductivo con un enfoque cuantitativo. La investigación nivel correlacional. Se tuvo una muestra de 66 pacientes adultos atendidos en la Clínica Dental Odontofresh a los cuales se les realizo las mediciones según el método de Knebelman y Willis además de determinar la distancia entre la base de la nariz y el mentón. Resultados: Se encontró que el promedio de la distancia entre la base de la nariz y el mentón fue de 50,67 mm en mujeres y 51,21 en hombres mientras que según el método de Knebelman los resultados más aproximados fueron de 64,03 mm en mujeres y 64,94 mm en hombres y según el método de Willis fue de 48,7 mm para mujeres y 4,39 para hombres. Según la prueba estadística de rangos con signos de Wilcoxon las medidas obtenidas por ambos métodos tienen una significancia de 0,000 y 0,002 para los métodos de Knebelman y Willis, respectivamente. Conclusión: Existen diferencias significativas entre la dimensión vertical oclusal y la determinada por el método de Knebelman y el método de Willis en pacientes adultos de la clínica Odontofresh en el 2022
