Level of knowledge and practices about care focused on the neurodevelopment of premature newborns that nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit of an institute in Lima have, 2023

Abstract

The specialist nurse in neonatal intensive care faces the great challenge of providing special care to the premature neonate, which focuses on the protection of its neurodevelopment, intervening in the micro and macro environment that surrounds it, this will guarantee safe, quality care as well as reduce morbidity and mortality constituting a great institutional strategy worldwide in the health sector, for this it is important not only to know but to apply these cares focused on neurodevelopment that consist of the correct management of light, noise, newborn posture, opportune handling, grouping of interventions, respect for the sleep and wake period, pain management in addition to working with the family through the kangaroo method, breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact. The objective of this project is to determine the level of knowledge and practices about care focused on the neurodevelopment of premature newborns that nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit have. The research methodology is quantitative, descriptive and correlational design. The population will be made up of 80 nurses who work in the Neonatal ICU Service of a health institute in Lima. The validated instrument that will be used to measure the level of knowledge will be a 20-question questionnaire and a 32-item checklist to measure practices.

La enfermera especialista en cuidados intensivos neonatales enfrenta el reto de proteger el cerebro del prematuro interviniendo en el ambiente que lo rodea, esto garantizará una atención segura, disminuyendo la morbi mortalidad, para ello es importante no sólo conocer sino aplicar estos cuidados que consisten en el correcto manejo de la luz, ruido, postura del neonato, manipulación oportuna, agrupación de intervenciones, respeto del periodo del sueño y vigilia, manejo del dolor y el trabajo con la familia a través del método canguro y lactancia materna. El objetivo del presente proyecto es determinar el nivel de conocimientos y las prácticas sobre el cuidado centrado en el neurodesarrollo de los recién nacidos prematuros que tienen los enfermeros de la unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatales. La metodología de investigación es cuantitativa, descriptiva y de diseño correlacional. La población estará conformada por 80 enfermeras que laboran en la unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatal de un instituto de salud de Lima. El instrumento validado que se usará para medir el nivel de conocimientos será un cuestionario de 20 preguntas y para medir las prácticas una lista de cotejo de 32 ítems.
