Social support and stigma in patients with tuberculosis who are care at the Jicamarca maternal and children center- Lima 2023

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between socialsupport and stigma in tuberculosis patients receiving care at the Jicamarca Maternal and Child Center in Lima, 2023. Methodologically, the study was structured under a hypothetical-deductive, applied, quantitative, cross-sectional, non-experimental, and correlational method. The population consisted of 80 participants, and the sample was also 80 participants as it was a census. Questionnaires were used as instruments for each variable. The results showed that the participants were predominantly male (63.0%), with an age range of 16 to 30 years (42.0%). The majority were single (43.2%). Social support was found to be moderate (73.8%), while stigma was rated as regular (76.3%). It was found that emotional, instrumental, and affective support were significantly related to stigma with a p-value of 0.000. In conclusion, this study demonstrates a significant relationship between social support and stigma, with a p-value of 0.000 and a "Rho" value of 0.572. Therefore, social support can play a crucial role in reducing stigma and promoting the well-being of individuals who experience it.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el apoyo social y estigma en pacientes con tuberculosis que se atienden en el Centro Materno Infantil de Jicamarca- Lima 2023. Material y métodos: metodológicamente fue estructurado bajo un método hipotético deductivo, aplicado, cuantitativo, transversal, no experimental y correlacional, conformado por 80 participantes como población y la muestra se integró por la misma cantidad al ser censal, mientras que como instrumento serán aplicados cuestionarios por cada variable. Los resultados evidencian que los participantes fueron principalmente masculinos en un 63.0%, con una edad de 16 a 30 años en un 42.0%, el estado civil fue soltero en un 43.2%, seguidamente el apoyo social fue moderado en un 73.8 % y el estigma fue regular en un 76.3%, se evidenció que el apoyo emocional instrumental y afectivo se relacionaron significativamente con el estigma con un p.valor de 0.000. Se concluye que el apoyo social se relaciona significativamente con el estigma con un valor p de significancia de 0.000 y el valor “Rho“ es 0.572, por tanto, el apoyo social puede desempeñar un papel crucial en la reducción del estigma y en el bienestar de las personas que lo experimentan.
