Self-esteem and its relationship with self-care ability in patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Santa Patricia Medical Center.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between self-esteem and self-care ability in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the Santa Patricia Medical Center. Methodology: This was a quantitative, applied, non-experimental study with a correlational design and cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 93 patients, and the instrument used was a questionnaire for evaluation. Results: When correlating the two study variables, it was found that medium self-care ability increases as the level of self-esteem rises. The findings showed that 53.8% of patients with low self-esteem had medium self-care ability, and only 7.7% had high self-care ability. Regarding self-esteem, 48.4% had medium self-esteem, with the remainder distributed between high self-esteem (37.6%) and low self-esteem (14%). In the self-care ability variable, 48.4% had medium self-care, 25.8% had low self-care, and the remaining had high self-care. Conclusion: The statistical test of Spearman's correlation coefficient (Spearman's rho: 0.338, p-value: 0.001) showed a significant direct or positive relationship of medium level between self-esteem and self-care ability in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

En el presente trabajo de investigación el objetivo fue determinar la relación entre la autoestima y la capacidad de autocuidado en los pacientes que reciben tratamiento de hemodiálisis en el Centro Médico Santa Patricia. Metodología; fue un estudio cuantitativo, de nivel aplicativo, no experimental, de diseño correlacional, de corte transversal. La población fue 93 pacientes, el instrumento fue un cuestionario para evaluar. Los resultados; Al correlacionar las dos variables de estudio se encontró que la capacidad de autocuidado de nivel medio se incrementa a medida que es más alto el nivel de autoestima, esto nos muestran que 53.8% de los pacientes con autoestima baja tienen capacidad de autocuidado media y solo el 7.7% tienen capacidad de autocuidado elevado, en cuanto a la variable de autoestima el 48. 4 % tiene autoestima de nivel medio, el resto se distribuye entre la autoestima elevada 37.6% y autoestima baja 14%. En la variable la capacidad de autocuidado el 48,4% nivel autocuidado medio, 25,8% tiene un autocuidado bajo y alto. Concluyendo; al realizar la prueba estadística de coeficiente de correlación de Spearman (Rho de Spearman: 0.338 p valor: 0.001), se encontró que si existe una relación directa o positiva significativa de nivel medio entre la autoestima y la capacidad de autocuidado en los pacientes que reciben tratamiento de hemodiálisis
