Level of knowledge and preventive practices on pressure ulcers of the nursing staff in the intensive care unit in a private clinic, Lima 2023

Abstract

Introduction: Pressure ulcers are injuries that affect the skin and underlying tissue caused by different factors such as malnutrition, prolonged periods in bed, altered state of consciousness, terminal illnesses, etc. These injuries are the first cause of morbidity and mortality in critical units, since they not only affect the patient's quality of life, but also impact the patient's recovery, further complicating the pathology for which they were admitted, deteriorating the chances of recovery. Objective: Determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and preventive practices on pressure ulcers of nursing staff in the Intensive Care Unit of a clinic of Lima in 2023. Methodology: The research method is hypothetical-deductive, quantitative approach, correlational level, non-experimental design, cross-sectional. The population will be finite and will be made up of 60 nursing professionals from the intensive care unit of a private clinic in Lima. The technique that will be the survey, through the questionnaire for the first variable "Level of knowledge about pressure ulcer", by the author Zevallo V, with a reliability of 0.99 in Crombach's Alpha, and for the second variable the technique It will be observation using the checklist to measure the “Preventive Practices on Pressure Ulcers” by the author Carazas H, with a reliability of 0.83 in Crombach's Alpha; both instruments validated by expert judgment. Data processing and analysis will be carried out using a database and the SPSS 26 program, and hypothesis testing will be carried out using Person's Chi Square.

Introducción: Las úlceras por presión (UPP) son lesiones que afectan la piel y los tejidos subyacentes causadas por distintos factores como la desnutrición, periodos prolongados en cama, alteración del estado de conciencia, enfermedades terminales, etc. Estas lesiones son la primera causa de morbimortalidad en las unidades críticas, ya que no solo afectan la calidad de vida del paciente, si no también repercuten en la recuperación del paciente complicando más la patología por la cual ingreso deteriorando las posibilidades de recuperación. Objetivo: Determinar la relación del nivel de conocimientos y las practicas preventivas sobre úlceras por presión del personal de enfermería en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de una clínica privada de Lima en el año 2023. Metodología: El método de investigación es hipotético deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, nivel correlacional, diseño no experimental, corte transversal. La población será finita y estará conformada por los 60 profesionales de enfermería de la unidad de cuidados intensivos de una clínica privada de Lima. La técnica que será la encuesta, mediante el cuestionario para la primera variable “Nivel de conocimientos sobre úlcera por presión”, de la autora Zevallo V, con una confiablidad de 0,99 en el Alfa de Crombach, y para la segunda variable la técnica será la observación mediante la lista de coteja para medir las “Prácticas preventivas sobre úlceras por presión” de la autora Carazas H, con una confiabilidad de 0,83 en el Alfa de Crombach; ambos instrumentos validados por un juicio de expertos. El procesamiento y análisis de datos se realizará mediante una base de datos y el programa SPSS 26, y la prueba de hipótesis mediante el Chi Cuadrado de Person.
