Knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta settlement – Rímac.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta-Rímac Settlement in 2017. Materials and Methods: A quantitative, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study with a sample of 198 residents. The techniques used were surveys and observation, with the instruments being a questionnaire and a checklist. Results: 52.5% had medium knowledge, 40.4% had high knowledge, and 7.1% had low knowledge. 100% of the residents were unaware of where dengue is transmitted and the best way to prevent it. 61.6% did not know what the mosquito that transmits dengue looks like, and 53.5% did not know the name of the mosquito that transmits dengue. In terms of practices, 62.6% exhibited inadequate practices, and 37.4% exhibited adequate practices. 68.2% of respondents did not sweep away accumulated water at home, 58.1% did not wash containers with detergent where water is stored, and 54% did not eliminate containers where water could accumulate, such as plastic bottles and tires. The Chi-square correlation test was used. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta Settlement.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación del nivel de conocimiento y las prácticas en la prevención y control del dengue en pobladores del Asentamiento Humano Santa Rosa Alta-Rímac 2017. Materiales y métodos: tipo cuantitativo, descriptivo correlacional, corte transversal, la muestra constituida por 198 pobladores. Las técnicas utilizadas fue la encuesta y la observación, los instrumentos el cuestionario y lista de chequeo. Resultados: El 52.5 % presenta conocimiento medio, 40.4% conocimiento alto, 7.1% conocimiento bajo. El 100% de pobladores desconoce donde se reproduce y cuál es la mejor forma de evitar el dengue, 61.6% no conoce como es el zancudo que trasmite el dengue, y el 53.5% no conoce cómo se llama el zancudo que trasmite el dengue. En las prácticas el 62.6 % presenta prácticas inadecuadas y el 37.4% prácticas adecuadas. El 68,2% de los encuestados no barre el agua acumulada en casa, 58.1% no lava con detergente los recipientes donde almacena agua, y el 54 % no elimina los recipientes donde se puedan acumular agua, como botellas de plástico, llantas. Se utilizó la prueba de correlación Chi cuadrado.Conclusión: Existe relación entre nivel de conocimiento y las prácticas en la prevención y control del dengue en pobladores del Asentamiento Humano Santa Rosa Alta
