Effectiveness of the pneumococcal vaccine in preventing pneumococcal infections in the elderly

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the Pneumococcal vaccine in the prevention of pneumococcal infections in the elderly population. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The systematic review consists of 10 scientific articles, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the Antipneumococcal vaccine in the prevention of pneumococcal infections in the elderly population, obtained from the following database: Pubmed, Scielo, Medline, Ebsco, and Google academic. They were analyzed according to the Grade scale to determine the strength of recommendation and quality of the evidence. Of the 10 articles. 50% is moderate evidence, 40% is high evidence and 10% is low evidence RESULTS: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (10/10) demonstrate the effectiveness of the pneumococcal vaccine in preventing infections pneumococcal infections in the elderly population. CONCLUSIONS: According to the evidence reviewed, it is concluded that 10 of the 10 articles demonstrate that there is effectiveness of the anti-pneumococcal vaccine in the prevention of pneumococcal infections in the elderly population with statistical significance of 72-76%.

OBJETIVO: Sistematizar las evidencias sobre la efectividad de la vacuna Antineumocócica en la prevención de infecciones neumocócicas en población adulto mayor. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: La revisión sistemática consta de 10 artículos científicos, que evidencian la efectividad de la vacuna Antineumocócica en la prevención de infecciones neumocócicas en población adulto mayor, obtenidos de la siguiente base de datos: Pubmed, Scielo, Medline, Ebsco, y Google académico. Fueron analizados según la escala Grade para determinar la fuerza de recomendacion y calidad de la evidencia. De los 10 artículos. El 50% es de evidencia moderada, El 40 % es de evidencia alta y el 10% de evidencia baja RESULTADOS: De los 10 artículos revisados, el 100% (10/10) demuestran la efectividad de la vacuna Antineumocócica en la prevención de infecciones neumocócicas en población adulto mayor. CONCLUSIONES: Según las evidencias revisadas concluye que 10 de los 10 artículos demuestran que existe efectividad de la vacuna antineumococica en la prevención de infecciones neumococicas en la población adulto mayor con significancia estadística de 72-76%.
