Effectiveness of educational intervention for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in women of childbearing age.

Abstract

Objective: To systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of educational interventions for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in women of fertile age. Materials and Methods: A systematic review of retrospective studies was conducted, allowing for information synthesis, increasing the validity of conclusions from individual studies, and being fundamental for the scientific practice of nursing. Full-text articles were included and subjected to critical reading, using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen, with 90% (9) from Cuba and 10% (1) from Mexico. The studies were of a pre-experimental design. Of the total articles analyzed, 100% (10/10) confirm that educational interventions for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in women of fertile age are effective, and more than 70% of women had insufficient knowledge about the prevention and early detection of breast cancer before the educational intervention. After the intervention, more than 80% gained sufficient knowledge about breast cancer prevention and early detection. Conclusions: The 10 articles systematically analyzed showed the effectiveness of educational interventions for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in women of fertile age.

Objetivo: Sistematizar las evidencias sobre la Efectividad de la intervención educativa para la prevención y detección precoz de cáncer de mama en mujeres en edad fértil. Materiales y Métodos: Revisión Sistemática, que son estudios retrospectivos que nos permiten sintetizar la información, aumentar la validez de las conclusiones de estudios individuales y son fundamentales para la práctica científica de la enfermería, se incluyó artículos con texto completo, sometidos a una lectura crítica, utilizando el sistema Grade para asignar la fuerza de recomendación. Resultados: En la selección definitiva, se optaron por 10 artículos, de los cuales encontramos que un 90% (09) corresponden a Cuba y un 10% (01) corresponden a México. Los estudios son de diseño pre experimental. Del total de artículos analizados, el 100% (10/10) afirma que las intervenciones educativas para la prevención y detección precoz de cáncer de mama en mujeres en edad fértil son efectivas y que más del 70% de las mujeres tenía conocimientos insuficientes sobre la prevención y detección precoz del cáncer de mama antes de la intervención educativa y luego de la misma, más del 80% obtuvo conocimientos suficientes sobre la prevención y detección precoz del cáncer de mama. Conclusiones: Los 10 artículos analizados sistemáticamente evidenció la efectividad de las intervenciones educativas en la prevención y detección precoz de cáncer de mama en mujeres en edad fértil.
