Relationship between knowledge level and attitudes towards menopause in women attended at the National Maternal-Perinatal Institute of Lima, October 2017.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the attitude towards climacteric among women aged 39 to 59 years attending the outpatient clinics of the National Maternal and Perinatal Institute of Lima, during October 2017. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative study with a descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 145 women. The technique used was an interview, and the instruments included a questionnaire with 10 questions to measure the knowledge level and a test with 6 items to measure attitude. Results: It was found that 46.9% (68) had an average knowledge level about climacteric, 29% (42) had a high level, and 24.1% (35) had a low level. In terms of attitude, 51.7% (75) exhibited a favorable attitude, while 48.3% (70) exhibited an unfavorable attitude. Conclusions: There is a low positive relationship between the knowledge level and attitude towards climacteric, as most women with an average knowledge level demonstrated a favorable attitude, while those with lower knowledge exhibited an unfavorable attitude.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y la actitud frente al climaterio que presentan las mujeres de 39 a 59 años atendidas en los consultorios externos del Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal de Lima, durante Octubre del 2017. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de enfoque cuantitativo con método descriptivo, correlacional, de corte transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 145 mujeres. La técnica utilizada fue la entrevista y los instrumentos: un cuestionario conformado por 10 preguntas para medir el nivel de conocimiento y un test conformado por 6 ítems para medir la actitud. Resultados: Se halló que el 46.9% (68) presentó un nivel medio de conocimiento sobre climaterio, el 29% (42) nivel alto y el 24.1% (35) nivel bajo. Para la actitud, el 51.7% (75) presentó actitud favorable y el 48.3% (70) actitud desfavorable. Conclusiones: Existe una relación positiva baja entre el nivel de conocimiento y la actitud frente al climaterio, porque quienes presentaron un conocimiento medio en su mayoría evidenciaron una actitud favorable y aquellas con conocimiento bajo, evidenciaron una actitud desfavorable.
