Peripheral muscle strength and quality of life in patients with chronic respiratory diseases at the Good Hope Clinic, Lima 2022

Abstract

Chronic respiratory diseases are characterized by a progressive deterioration of respiratory function and peripheral muscles over time, leading to permanent disability in the form of dyspnea, exercise intolerance, fatigue, etc., progressively affecting the patient's quality of life. On the other hand, good functioning of the respiratory and peripheral muscles will be essential to develop an adequate response to activity and improve ventilatory capacity, physical function, and exercise tolerance.

Las enfermedades respiratorias crónicas se caracterizan con el tiempo por un deterioro progresivo de la función respiratoria y de la musculatura periférica, que conducen a una discapacidad permanente en forma de disnea, intolerancia al ejercicio, fatiga, etc, afectando progresivamente la calidad de vida del paciente. Por otro lado un buen funcionamiento de la musculatura respiratoria y periférica será indispensable para desarrollar una respuesta adecuada ante una actividad y mejorar su capacidad ventilatoria, su función física y su tolerancia al ejercicio.
