Nutritional Status of children under 5 years of age who are cared for at the Centro de Salud Materno Infantil “MAGDALENA” and its association with the level of knowledge about infant feeding of their mothers or caregivers

Abstract

General Objective: To determine the nutritional status of children under 5 years old attending the “MAGDALENA” Maternal and Child Health Center and its association with the level of knowledge about child nutrition among their mothers or caregivers. Materials and Method: The study will be descriptive, with a quantitative approach, cross-sectional, and non-experimental. A questionnaire with 10 questions and a single response option on child nutrition will be used to assess the knowledge of mothers or caregivers. The knowledge level will be classified as high (15-11 pts.), medium (10-6 pts.), or low (5-0 pts.). Results: The Spearman's rank test was used to measure the relationship between the two quantitative variables. The association degree between the two variables was calculated on each scale (-1 and 1). A statistical hypothesis was tested with a p-value of 0.9815 at a 5% significance level, allowing us to conclude that there is insufficient statistical evidence to reject the null hypothesis. Conclusion: With a p-value of 0.9815 at a 5% significance level, we conclude that there is no significant relationship between the knowledge level about nutrition and the nutritional status of the child.

Objetivo General: Determinar el estado nutricional de niños menores de 5 años que se atienden en el Centro de Salud Materno Infantil “MAGDALENA” y su asociación con el nivel de conocimientos sobre alimentación infantil de sus madres o cuidadoras. Material y Método: El estudio será descriptivo, con enfoque cuantitativo, de corte transversal, no experimental. Como instrumento se empleará un cuestionario la cual estará conformada por 10 preguntas con respuesta única sobre alimentación infantil para evaluar el conocimiento en madres o cuidadoras. Será clasificada en nivel de conocimiento alto (15- 11 pts.), medio (10-¬ pts.) y bajo (5-0 pts.) Resultados: La prueba de razón de Spearman se utiliza para medir la relación entre las dos variables cuantitativas. En cada escala -1 y 1 calcula el grado de asociación entre dos variables, para demostrar que existe una relación lineal se prueba la siguiente hipótesis estadísticas: p-valor igual a 0.9815 a un nivel de significancia de 5%, podemos afirmar que no existe evidencia estadística suficiente para rechazar la hipótesis nula. Conclusión: Con un p-valor igual a 0.9815 a un nivel de significancia de 5%, podemos afirmar que no existe evidencia estadística suficiente para rechazar la hipótesis nula. Por lo que podemos concluir que no existe una relación entre el nivel de Conocimiento sobre la Alimentación y el Estado Nutricional del menor.
