Attitudes and knowledge about the use of periodontal probes in dental professionals in Arequipa, 2022

Abstract

This research was conducted with the objective of determining the relationship between attitudes and knowledge regarding the use of periodontal probes among dental professionals in Arequipa, 2022. The research method was hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach, correlational type, and cross-sectional level. The instruments used were two questionnaires with 30 and 10 questions, respectively, applied to a total of 351 licensed dentists who formed the research sample. The results revealed that 91.2% of the surveyed dentists had a good or very good level of knowledge about the use of periodontal probes in periodontal diagnosis, while 95.4% considered themselves to have a good attitude toward the use of this instrument. The research concluded that there is a moderate relationship between attitudes and knowledge regarding the use of periodontal probes among dental professionals in Arequipa, as evidenced by a Spearman's Rho value with a significance of 0.000, also showing a significant relationship according to age, gender, and years of professional experience.

La presente investigación fue desarrollada con el objetivo de; determinar la relación entre las actitudes y conocimientos sobre el uso de sondas periodontales en profesionales odontólogos de Arequipa, 2022. El método que guio la investigación fue hipotético – deductivo, con un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo correlacional y de un nivel transversal. Como instrumento empleado se tuvo la encuesta y en correspondencia el instrumento fueron dos cuestionarios que constaron de 30 y 10 preguntas respectivamente; que fueron aplicados en un total de 351 odontólogos colegiados que conformaron la muestra de investigación. Los resultados encontrados, relevaron como principales hallazgos que, el 91.2 % los odontólogos que han sido encuestados, alcanzan un buen y muy buen nivel de conocimiento sobre el uso de sondas periodontales en el diagnostico periodontal frente al 95.4% que considera tener una buena actitud para el uso de este instrumento. Finalmente, la investigación concluyo que, existe una relación moderada entre las actitudes y los conocimientos sobre el uso de sondas periodontales en profesionales odontólogos de Arequipa, dado que se obtuvo un Rho de Spearman con una significancia igual a 0.000, existiendo también una relación significativa según la edad, género y años de experiencia profesional de los odontólogos.
