Level of knowledge and practice about exclusive breastfeeding in mothers of children under 6 months of the pediatrics service of a hospital in Villa el Salvador, 2024

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how the knowledge that mothers have about exclusive breastfeeding influences the nutrition of infants up to six months old who receive care in the service of a Hospital in Villa El Salvador during the year 2024. Adopting a quantitative, basic, non-experimental and transversal approach, the existing methods and theories that will support the description and analysis of the correlational findings obtained will be evaluated. To measure the variables, the questionnaire created and validated by Quispe in 2019 in Lima, Peru, and the García's exclusive breastfeeding practice questionnaire validated in 2015 will be used. The study group is made up of 93 mothers. and their children under six months of age who participate in pediatric consultations. Given the lack of knowledge of a large majority of mothers who go to said hospital, this research project is carried out in order to provide valuable knowledge and address a significant issue that may be beneficial for the health institution.

El propósito de este estudio es examinar cómo el conocimiento que poseen las madres acerca de la lactancia materna exclusiva influye en la nutrición de los infantes de hasta seis meses que reciben atención en el servicio de un Hospital de Villa El Salvador durante el año 2024. Adoptando un enfoque cuantitativo, básico, no experimental y transversal, se procederá a evaluar los métodos y teorías existentes que fundamentarán la descripción y análisis de los hallazgos correlacionales obtenidos. Para medir las variables, se recurrirá al cuestionario creado y validado creado por Quispe el año 2019 en Lima, Perú, y al cuestionario de la práctica de lactancia materna exclusiva de García validado el año 2015. El grupo de estudio está compuesto por 93 madres y sus hijos menores de seis meses que participan en las consultas de servicio de pediatría. Ante el desconocimiento de una gran mayoría de madres que acuden a dicho nosocomio, se lleva a cabo este proyecto investigativo con el fin de aportar conocimientos valiosos y atender una cuestión significativa que pueda resultar beneficioso para la institución de salud.
