Stress and work performance of the nursing professional in the hospitalization service of a national hospital, Lima 2023

Abstract

This thesis aims to determine the relationship between stress and work performance of nursing staff at a hospital in Lima. His approach was quantitative, hypothetical deductive method, non-experimental design, descriptive-correlational level, cross-sectional. His sample had 82 of them and the sampling was non-probabilistic. Their results were as follows: work stress has a low level according to 51.2% of the respondents, followed by the medium level (47.6%) and high level (1.2%); Job performance was perceived as good level (65.9%), followed by average level (23.2%) and bad level (11.0%). The normality analysis reported that the data have a non-normal distribution, so a non-parametric test such as Spearman's rho was used. The hypothesis test showed that stress and job performance have a negative, significant (p=.000< 0.05) and moderate relationship (Spearman's rho= -.436). Therefore, it is possible to affirm that greater perceived stress is related to lower job performance. The alternative hypothesis is then accepted and, consequently, the null hypothesis is questioned.

Esta tesis tiene el objetivo de determinar la relación entre estrés y desempeño laboral del profesional de enfermería del servicio de hospitalización de un hospital de Lima. Su enfoque fue cuantitativo, método hipotético deductivo, diseño no experimental, de nivel descriptivo-correlacional, de corte transversal. Su muestra contó con 82 de ellos y el muestreo ha sido no probabilístico. Sus resultados fueron como sigue: el estrés laboral tiene un nivel bajo de acuerdo con el 51,2% de los encuestados, seguido del nivel medio (47,6%) y alto (1,2%); el desempeño laboral fue percibido como de nivel bueno (65,9%), seguido del nivel regular (23,2%) y malo (11,0%). El análisis de normalidad reportó que los datos tienen una distribución no normal, por lo que se utilizó una prueba no paramétrica como rho de Spearman. La prueba de hipótesis arrojó que estrés y desempeño laboral existe una relación negativa, significativa (p=,000<0,05) y moderada (rho de Spearman= -,436). Por ello, es posible afirmar que un mayor estrés percibido se relaciona con un menor desempeño laboral. Luego, se acepta la hipótesis alterna y, por consiguiente, se cuestiona la hipótesis nula.
