Effectiveness of home telemonitoring in heart failure patients

Abstract

Method: A systematic review of the 10 scientific articles found on the effectiveness of home telemonitoring in patients with heart failure. Relevant studies were identified in the following databases: LIPECS, MEDLINE, LILACS, EBSCO, PUBMED, and COCHRANE PLUS. The research was limited to full-text studies, and the selected articles were subjected to an exhaustive reading, using the GRADE system to assess the quality of the evidence. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen, of which the majority were systematic review studies (70%), followed by clinical trials (20%). Additionally, 10% of the studies were meta-analyses. On the other hand, 90% (N=09/10) show that telemonitoring in patients with heart failure is effective in reducing hospital readmissions, decreasing mortality, and improving the quality of life of patients with heart failure. Conclusions: The studies considered in this research demonstrate the effectiveness of home telemonitoring in patients with heart failure. This is corroborated by the reduction in hospital readmissions, decreased mortality, and improved quality of life.

Método: La revisión sistemática de los 10 artículos científicos encontrados sobre la eficacia de la telemonitorización domiciliaria en pacientes con insuficiencia cardíaca. Se han identificado estudios relevantes en las siguientes bases de datos: LIPECS, MEDLINE, LILACS, EBSCO, PUBMED y COCHRANE PLUS. La investigación se ha limitado a las investigaciones de texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados han sido sometidos a una lectura exhaustiva, utilizando el sistema GRADE para otorgar la calidad de la evidencia. Resultados: En la selección final se eligieron 10 artículos, de los cuales la mayoría son investigaciones de revisión sistemática, con un 70%, seguidos de ensayos clínicos con un 20%. También se encontró un 10% de estudios de meta-análisis. Por otro lado, el 90% (N=09/10) muestra que la telemonitorización en pacientes con insuficiencia cardíaca es eficaz, disminuyendo los reingresos hospitalarios, reduciendo la mortalidad y mejorando la calidad de vida de los pacientes con insuficiencia cardíaca. Conclusiones: En las investigaciones consideradas en el presente estudio, se evidenció que existe eficacia de la telemonitorización domiciliaria en pacientes con insuficiencia cardíaca. Esto se corrobora con la disminución de los reingresos hospitalarios, la reducción de la mortalidad y la mejora en la calidad de vida.
