Work stress and the performance of nursing staff in the emergency service of a hospital in Lima – 2022

Abstract

Introduction: Work-related stress in nursing continues to be a worldwide problem, a profession that undoubtedly suffers a daily decrease in its performance, due to various factors such as lack of autonomy, workload, rotating shifts, conflicts between the work team, role ambiguity, etc.; all of this is reflected in the quality of care provided to the user. Objective: To determine the relationship of work stress with the performance of the nurse in the emergency service of a Hospital in Lima - 2022. Methods: The research will be applied, with a quantitative, observational, descriptive, correlational and cutting approach. cross. The census population will be the 45 nursing workers of the emergency service between July and August 2022. Likewise, the survey and observation will be applied with validated and reliable instruments to measure work stress through the questionnaire "The nursing stress scale" translated into spanish by Escribà et al. It consists of 34 items divided into 3 dimensions: physical environment, psychological environment and social environment; and the observation guide to evaluate the performance of the nurse prepared by the Ministry of Health and validated by Pacheco, which is made up of 8 dimensions: planning, responsibility, initiative, opportunity, quality of work, reliability and discretion, interpersonal relationships and compliance with standards.

Introducción: El estrés laboral en enfermería sigue siendo un problema mundial, una profesión que sin duda sufre a diario descenso en su desempeño; lo cual influye en la calidad de atención que brinda al usuario. Objetivo: Determinar la relación del estrés laboral con el desempeño del personal de enfermería en el servicio de emergencia de un Hospital de Lima, 2022. Métodos: La investigación será de tipo aplicada, con enfoque cuantitativo, observacional, descriptivo, correlacional y de corte transversal. La población serán los 45 trabajadores de enfermería del servicio de emergencia entre el mes de julio a agosto del 2022. Así mismo, se aplicará la encuesta y observación con los instrumentos validados y confiables para medir el estrés laboral por medio del cuestionario “The nursing stress scale” traducida al español por Escribà et al. que consta de 34 ítems dividido en 3 dimensiones: ambiente físico, ambiente psicológico y ambiente social; y la guía de observación para evaluar el desempeño de la enfermera elaborado por el Ministerio de Salud y validado por Pacheco, el cual está conformada por 8 dimensiones: planificación, responsabilidad, iniciativa, oportunidad, calidad del trabajo, confiabilidad y discreción, relaciones interpersonales y cumplimiento de las normas.
