Differentiation of Candida albicans from Candida dubliniensis in tobacco agar, prepared with tobacco from three cigar brands

Abstract

The objective was to describe the differentiation of Candida albicans from Candida dubliniensis on tobacco agar, prepared with tobacco from three cigarette brands. This observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out with two strains of Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis, isolated and confirmed by the Microbiology Service of the National Institute of Child Health - Breña. These strains were then plated on tobacco agar prepared with tobacco from three cigarette brands (Hamilton, Premier, and Pallmall) and incubated for 96 hours at 28°C in the microbiology service of the Huaycan hospital. Macroscopic and microscopic differences between Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis were observed 72 hours after incubation, achieving the expected research objectives. This allowed for the description of the specific differences between Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis through tobacco agar, giving a good specificity of approximately 100%, as described by some authors.

El objetivo fue describir la diferenciación de Candida albicans de Candida dubliniensis en agar tabaco, preparado con el tabaco de tres marcas de cigarros. Se realizó la investigación de tipo observacional, transversal, descriptivo, a partir de dos cepas del Género Candida albicans y Candida dubliniensis, aisladas y confirmadas por el Servicio de Microbiología del Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño - Breña, las cuales fueron sembradas posteriormente en el agar tabaco preparado con el tabaco de tres marcas de cigarros (Hamilton, Premier y Pallmall) e incubadas a 96 horas a 28C°, en el servicio de microbiología del hospital de Huaycan. Se pudo observar las diferencias macroscópicas y microscópicas entre candida albicans y candida dubliniensis a las 72 horas de haber sido incubadas cumpliendo los objetivos esperados en la investigación, permitiendo describir las diferencias específicas entre Candida albicans y Candida dubliniensis, a través del agar tabaco, preparado con el tabaco de los cigarros (Hamilton, Premier y Pallmall), nos da una buena especificidad aproximadamente de un 100% como lo describen algunos autores.
