Hand grip strength and weaning from Mecanical Ventilation in COVID-19 patients in a hospital in Lima 2023

Abstract

Following COVID-19, the most severe patients were placed on mechanical ventilation (MV), which, combined with sedatives and muscle relaxants, led to prolonged MV stays and weakness associated with ICU (DAUCI). Manual strength, measured using a dynamometer, helps identify this weakness and associate it with the success or failure of weaning from mechanical ventilation through quantifiable indicators. Objective: To determine the relationship between manual grip strength and mechanical ventilation weaning in COVID-19 patients. Materials and methods: Clinical records of patients who were on MV in the ICU will be used. A hypothetical-deductive method with a quantitative approach, and a correlational, observational, analytical, and retrospective design will be employed.

A raíz de la COVID 19, los pacientes mas graves llegaron a ventilación mecánica (VM), al uso de sedantes y relajantes musculares asociado a una estancia prolongada en VM los pacientes desarrollaron debilidad asociada a la unidad critica (DAUCI), la fuerza depresión manual, a través del dinamómetro nos sirve para poder identificar dicha debilidad a su vez poder asociar al éxito o fracaso del destete de ventilación mecánica por medio de indicadores cuantificables. El objetivo será Determinar relación entre la fuerza de prensión manual y destete de la ventilación mecánica en pacientes COVID-19. El material y método: se utilizarán los registros de las historias clínicas de los pacientes que estuvieron en VM en UCI, se utilizara un método hipotético deductivo con un enforque cuantitativo y con un diseño correlacional, observacional, analítico y retrospectivo.
