Leadership and job performance of the nursing professional in the emergency service of a hospital in Lima, 2023

Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) states that in the world there are 19.3 million professional nursing personnel, which is the revelation of 4.8 million in the period 2013-2018, so the institution emphasizes, it is necessary to strengthen the leadership of these professionals, with the sole consequence of granting guarantee of care and in that way, it can contribute to the effectiveness and individual performance. Objective: To determine how leadership and work performance are related in the health team of the emergency service of a national hospital in Peru, during the year 2023. Method: The research will be hypothetical – deductive, quantitative approach, applied type, nonexperimental design, descriptive level – correlational and cross-sectional, in addition for convenience a sample of 60 nursing professionals who attend in the emergency area of a Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the department of Lima in the year 2023 was chosen. To measure leadership, the questionnaire developed by Casales (2006), adapted and validated for nursing professionals in the emergency department by the Peruvian researcher Bach, will be used. Edelisa Yarcuri in her master's thesis "Leadership styles and work performance in workers of the Huancasancos Health Center" in 2018. The questionnaire to measure work performance was designed and validated by Peruvian researcher Kely Ortega in her Master's thesis "Leadership and performance of nursing professionals in the emergency service of an EsSalud Hospital" in 2016.

Introducción: La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) manifiesta que en el mundo existe 19.3 millones de personal enfermero profesional, que es la revelación de 4.8 millones en el periodo 2013- 2018, por lo que enfatiza la necesidad del fortalecimiento del liderazgo de estos profesionales, con una consecuencia de otorgar garantía de atención y así contribuir en la eficacia y desempeño individual. Método: La investigación será de método hipotético – deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, tipo aplicada, diseño no experimental, nivel descriptivo – correlacional y de corte transversal, además por conveniencia se eligió una muestra de 100 profesionales de enfermería que atienden en el área de emergencia de un hospital del Ministerio de Salud del departamento de Lima en el año 2023. Para medir el liderazgo, se usará el cuestionario elaborado por Casales (2006), adaptado y validado para profesionales enfermeros en el servicio de emergencia por la investigadora peruana Bach. Edelisa Yarcuri en su tesis de maestría “Estilos de liderazgo y desempeño laboral en trabajadores del Centro de Salud Huancasancos” en el año 2018. El cuestionario para medir el desempeño laboral fue diseñado y validado por la investigadora peruana Kely Ortega en su tesis de Maestría “Liderazgo y desempeño de los profesionales de enfermería del servicio de emergencia de un Hospital de EsSalud” en el año 2016.
