Knowledge about asthma in parents of children attending a national hospital in the pediatric service, 2019

Abstract

Objective: Determine the knowledge about asthma in parents of children who attend a National Hospital in the Pediatric Service, 2019. Materials and methods: It was quantifiable, descriptive, and cross-sectional in design. The study population was 80 parents of children with asthma who attend the National Hospital in the Pediatric Service. The technique was a survey and the instrument was a Newcastle Asthma Knowledge Questionnaire (α=0.72). Results: Knowledge about asthma in parents of children who attend the National Hospital in the Pediatric Service, 56.3% do not know and 43.7% know. according to dimensions; 75% do not know the generalities of asthma and 25% know them; Regarding the acute crisis: recognition, triggers and management of asthma are unknown in 63.7% and known in 26.3%; Regarding maintenance treatment for asthma, 75% are unaware and 25% are aware; and according to the false myths about asthma, 62.5% are unaware and 37.5% know. Conclusions: Knowledge about asthma in parents of children who attend the National Hospital in the Pediatric Service, in the general dimension and according to unknown dimensions.

Objetivo: Determinar el conocimiento acerca del asma en padres de niños que asisten a un Hospital Nacional en el Servicio de Pediatría, 2019. Materiales y métodos: Fue cuantificable, descriptivamente, y diseño transversalmente. La población de estudio fue de 80 padres de niños con asma que asisten al Hospital Nacional en el Servicio de Pediatría. La técnica fue una encuesta y como instrumento un cuestionario Newcastle Asthma Knowledge Questionnaire (α=0,72). Resultados: El conocimiento acerca del asma en papas de niños que asisten al Hospital Nacional en el Servicio de Pediatría, desconocen en 56.3% y conocen un 43.7%. según dimensiones; las generalidades del asma desconocen en un 75% y conocen en un 25%; en cuanto a la crisis aguda: reconocimiento, desencadenantes y manejo sobre el asma desconocen en un 63.7% y conocen 26.3%; respecto al tratamiento de mantenimiento sobre el asma desconocen en un 75% y conocen 25%; y según los falsos mitos sobre el asma desconocen en un 62.5% y conocen 37.5%. Conclusiones: El conocimiento acerca del asma en padres de niños que asisten al Hospital Nacional en el Servicio de Pediatría, en la dimensión general y según dimensiones desconocen.
