Relationship between knowledge level and attitudes about preventive measures for cervical cancer in women of reproductive age, at the "Todos los Santos" settlement in San Borja district, 2017.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding preventive measures for cervical cancer in women of childbearing age from the "Todos los Santos" AA HH in San Borja, 2017. Methodology: This is a quantitative study with a descriptive design and cross-sectional approach, as the information and data were obtained at a specific point in time. The study population consisted of 118 women of childbearing age living in the mentioned district, from which only women aged 15 to 45 years were selected. For data collection, a structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher, validated, and adjusted through a pilot test, with prior informed consent. The data obtained were tabulated and processed using Excel statistical software. Results: Regarding the level of knowledge, it was found that 90% had a medium level of knowledge, while 65% had a favorable attitude toward preventive measures for cervical cancer. It was observed that the Chi-Square = 5.892 with a significance of p > 0.05, indicating that the result is not significant, meaning the null hypothesis (negative) of independence is accepted, and therefore, we conclude that the two variables studied are independent and there is no relationship between them. This means that there is more than a 5% probability that the null hypothesis is true in our population, which is considered sufficient to accept it. Conclusion: The level of knowledge regarding preventive measures for cervical cancer in women of childbearing age was found to be medium. In contrast, the attitude towards preventive measures for cervical cancer in women of childbearing age was favorable, and it can be concluded that there is no relationship between both levels.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y las actitudes acerca de las medidas preventivas del cáncer cervicouterino en las mujeres en edad fértil del AA HH “Todos los Santos” San Borja, 2017. Metodología: Fue de tipo cuantitativo, de diseño descriptivo y de corte transversal porque la información y los datos se obtuvieron en un determinado momento. La población de estudio está conformada por 118 mujeres en edad fértil que viven en dicho distrito ya mencionado, de las cuales solo se escogió a mujeres entre las edades de 15 a 45 años. Para la recolección de datos se realizó un cuestionario estructurado que fue elaborado por la investigadora, validado y reajustado mediante la prueba piloto, previo consentimiento informado. Los datos obtenidos fueron tabulados y procesados por el programa estadístico Excel. Resultados: En cuanto al nivel de conocimiento, se puede apreciar que el 90% tuvo un nivel de conocimiento medio, mientras que en las actitudes acerca de las medidas preventivas del cáncer cervicouterino, el 65% tuvo una actitud favorable. Se observó que el Chi Cuadrado = 5,892 con una significancia de p > 0,05, evidenciando que el resultado no es significativo, es decir, se acepta la hipótesis nula (negativa) de independencia, y por lo tanto, se concluye que ambas variables estudiadas son independientes y no existe una relación entre ellas. Esto significa que existe más de un 5% de probabilidad de que la hipótesis nula sea cierta en nuestra población y lo consideramos suficiente para aceptarla. Conclusión: El nivel de conocimiento acerca de las medidas preventivas del cáncer cervicouterino en las mujeres en edad fértil fue de nivel medio. En cambio, en cuanto a la actitud hacia las medidas preventivas del cáncer cervicouterino en las mujeres en edad fértil, se encontró una actitud favorable, y se puede concluir que no hay relación entre ambos niveles.
