Self-esteem levels of the students of the School of Nursing at Universidad Norbert Wiener, 2016

Abstract

Objective: To determine the self-esteem level of students at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Norbert Wiener University in 2016. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative study with a descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective design. The Population: It consisted of 116 students from the 1st cycle to the 10th cycle of the Academic Professional School of Nursing. The technique used was a survey and the instrument was the Modified Self-Esteem Scale by Stanley Coopersmith, which aimed to identify the self-esteem level in nursing students. This instrument contains 25 statements. The data processing was done using EXCEL 2007 and SPSS version 20 for Windows 7.5. Results: It was found that 60% are between 15-20 years old, 15% are between 21-30 years old, 15% are between 31-40 years old, and finally, 10% are between 41-50 years old. Likewise, 28% are male and 72% are female, and finally, 84% are single and 16% are married. In the dimension of self-esteem, it was observed that 68% have high self-esteem, 17% have medium-high self-esteem, and 15% have medium-low self-esteem. According to the social dimension, 70% have high self-esteem and 30% have medium-high self-esteem. In the home dimension, it was observed that 16% have high self-esteem, 61% have medium-high self-esteem, and 26% have medium-low self-esteem. Conclusion: Regarding self-esteem in the self-dimension, 68% (79 students) have high self-esteem, 17% (20 students) have medium-high self-esteem, and 15% (17 students) have medium-low self-esteem. In this case, no students with low self-esteem were observed.

Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de autoestima de los estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad Norbert Wiener 2016. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio de tipo cuantitativo, diseño descriptivo de corte transversal y prospectivo. La Población: Estuvo constituida por 116 alumnos del 1er ciclo al décimo ciclo de la Escuela Académico Profesional de Enfermería. La técnica que se utilizó fue la encuesta y un instrumento, la Escala de Autoestima Modificada de Stanley Coopersmith, que tuvo como objetivo identificar el nivel de autoestima en los estudiantes de enfermería. Este instrumento presenta 25 enunciados. El procesamiento se realizó a través del programa EXCEL 2007 y el SPSS versión 20 para Windows 7.5. Resultados: Se encontró que el 60% están entre 15-20 años de edad, el 15% están entre 21-30 años de edad, el 15% están entre 31-40 años de edad y finalmente el 10% se encuentran entre 41-50 años de edad. Así mismo, el 28% son de sexo masculino y el 72% son femeninos, y finalmente el 84% son solteros y el 16% son casados. En la dimensión a sí mismo del nivel de autoestima, se observa que el 68% presenta autoestima alta, el 17% presenta autoestima medio alta y el 15% presenta autoestima medio baja. Según la dimensión social, se observa que el 70% presenta autoestima alta y el 30% presenta autoestima medio alta. En la dimensión en el hogar, se observa que el 16% presenta autoestima alta, el 61% presenta autoestima medio alta y el 26% presenta autoestima medio baja. Conclusión: La autoestima según la dimensión a sí mismo, el 68% (79 estudiantes) presenta autoestima alta, el 17% (20 estudiantes) presenta autoestima medio alta y el 15% (17 alumnos) presentan autoestima medio baja. En este caso no se ha observado pacientes con autoestima baja.
