Effect of functional positioning on physiological responses in premature infants with mechanical ventilation - Hospital Goyeneche, Arequipa 2024

Abstract

The WHO reports 15 million preterm births annually. Due to this increase, there is a need to find methods to stabilize their physiological parameters during their stay in the neonatal ICU. It is important to keep the neonate stable while performing routine procedures in the ICU to ensure less energy expenditure, reduced stress, and optimal growth and maturation. As cardiorespiratory physiotherapists, we can provide this stability through a strategy known as functional positioning. Functional positioning provides alignment and containment for the baby, reducing pain without exceeding routine handling of the infant. For this work, a Physiological Response Assessment Sheet was designed, considering factors such as alignment, containment, and pain as determinants in functional positioning. This will be a quasi-experimental, prospective study with a population of 80 neonates. The sample will be divided into two groups: the experimental group, where infants will be placed in different functional positions, and their physiological responses will be monitored for a week, and the control group, for comparison.

La OMS reporta anualmente 15 millones de nacimientos prematuros, ante este aumento surge la necesidad de encontrar métodos para la estabilización de sus parámetros fisiológicos durante su estancia en la UCI neonatal. Es importante mantener estable al neonato mientras se realizan procedimientos de rutina en UCI para asegurar menos gasto de energia, menos estres, un mayor crecimiento y maduración óptima. Como fisioterapéutas Cardiorespiratorios podemos proporcionar a través de una estrategia conocida como posicionamiento funcional, esa estabilidad. El posicionamiento funcional brinda alineación, contención al bebe reduciendo su dolor, esto sin exceder la manipulación de rutina del bebe. Para este trabajo se diseñó una Ficha de valoración de respuestas fisiológicas y se consideró criterios como la aineacipon, contención y dolor como determinantes en el posicionamiento funcional. Será un estudio cuasiexperimental, prospectivo cuya población será de 80 neonatos. Se dividirá en dos grupos: grupo casos a los cuales se les ubicará en diferentes posiciones funcionales resgistrando sus cambios en las respuesta fisiológicas durante una semana, y luego se analizará el efecto contrastandola con el grupo control.
