Nutritional status according to breastfeeding type in children aged 0-6 months at the Maternal and Child Health Center of Magdalena from September to December 2018

Abstract

Objective: Determine the relationship of nutritional status according to the type of breastfeeding in children under 0 – 6 months of age who attend the growth and development clinic of the Magdalena Maternal and Child Health Center from September to December 2018. Material and methods: Approach quantitative descriptive type, cross-sectional correlational design. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling, the sample consisted of 100 children. Results: 58% of respondents receive exclusive breastfeeding, 34%, mixed breastfeeding, and 8%, artificial breastfeeding; In the anthropometric value Weight/Age (P/E), 82% have a normal nutritional status, 16% are overweight and 2% have malnutrition; In the anthropometric value Weight/Height (P/T), 94% have a normal nutritional status, 4% are overweight and 2% are malnourished; In the anthropometric value Height/Age (T/E), 89% have a normal nutritional status, 5% have short stature, 3% have severe short stature and the same percentage has tall height for their age. By applying the Chi Square statistical test for the variables, a significance value of p = 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained. Conclusions: There is a relationship between nutritional status and the types of breastfeeding received by children from 0 to 6 months of age attended at the Magdalena Maternal and Child Health Center from September to December 2018.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación del estado nutricional según el tipo de lactancia en niños menores de 0 – 6 meses de edad que acuden al consultorio de crecimiento y desarrollo del Centro de Salud Materno Infantil Magdalena de setiembre a diciembre de 2018. Material y métodos: Enfoque cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo, diseño correlacional de corte transversal. Muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia, la muestra estuvo constituida por 100 niños. Resultados: El 58% de los encuestados recibe lactancia materna exclusiva, el 34%, lactancia materna mixta y el 8%, lactancia materna artificial; en el valor antropométrico Peso/Edad (P/E) el 82% presenta estado nutricional normal, el 16% evidencia sobrepeso y el 2% tiene desnutrición; en el valor antropométrico Peso/Talla (P/T) el 94% está con estado nutricional normal, el 4% con sobrepeso y el 2% desnutrido; en el valor antropométrico Talla/Edad (T/E) el 89% está con estado nutricional normal, el 5% tiene talla baja, el 3% presenta talla baja severa y el mismo porcentaje talla alta para su edad. Al aplicar la prueba estadística Chi Cuadrado para las variables, se obtuvo un valor de significancia de p = 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusiones: Existe relación entre el estado nutricional y los tipos de lactancia que reciben los niños de 0 a 6 meses de edad atendidos en el Centro de Salud Materno Infantil Magdalena de setiembre a diciembre de 2018.
