Emotional intelligence and work stress in nurses of the obstetrics and gynecology service of the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé-2018.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and work stress among nurses in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of the Madre Niño San Bartolomé Teaching Hospital in 2018. Material and Methods: This was a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational study. The sample consisted of 40 nurses, and data collection was conducted using the survey technique. The instruments used were the Trait Meta-Mood Scale for emotional intelligence and The Nursing Stress Scale for work stress. Statistical processing was carried out using the SPSS 24 statistical software. Results: 67.5% of the nurses showed an average level of emotional intelligence development, while 17.5% demonstrated a good level of emotional intelligence development, particularly in its dimensions. Most nurses presented an average level of emotional intelligence development, ranging from 50.0% to 67.5%. Regarding work stress, 57.5% of the nurses experienced moderate work stress, while 42.5% experienced low work stress. In almost all dimensions, the majority exhibited moderate work stress levels ranging from 57.5% to 87.5%, except in the dimension "problems with hierarchy," where 55.0% had low work stress. To establish the relationship between emotional intelligence and work stress, the chi-square test was applied, resulting in 0.081. Conclusion: There is no relationship between emotional intelligence and work stress among nurses in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of the Madre Niño San Bartolomé Teaching Hospital.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el estrés laboral de las enfermeras del servicio de Gineco Obtetricia del Hospital Docente Madre Niño San Bartolome-2018. Material y Métodos: Fue de tipo cuantitativo, no experimental transversal y correlacional. La muestra estuvo conformada por 40 enfermeras para la recolección de datos se utilizó la técnica de la encuesta, cuyo instrumento fue el Trait Meta –Mood Scale para inteligencia emocional y The Nursing Tres Scale para el estrés laboral. El procesamiento estadístico se realizó mediante el programa estadístico SPSS 24. Resultados: El 67,5 % de enfermeras presentaron promedio desarrollo de inteligencia emocional y el 17,5 % un buen desarrollo de inteligencia emocional y con respecto a sus dimensiones. La mayoría presentaron un promedio desarrollo de inteligencia emocional del 50,0 % al 67,5 % estrés laboral; el 57,5 % de enfermeras tienen un estrés laboral medio y el 42,5 % tienen un estrés laboral bajo, en sus dimensiones casi la totalidad presentó un estrés laboral medio que oscila de 57,5 % a 87,5 % excepto en la dimensión problemas con la jerarquía el 55,0 % tiene un estrés laboral bajo. Para establecer la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el estrés laboral se aplicó el chi cuadrado dando como resultado 0,081 Conclusión: No existe relación entre inteligencia emocional y estrés laboral en la enfermera del servicio de Gineco Obstetricia del Hospital Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé.
