Effectiveness of prophylactic mesh use in primary stoma formation to prevent parastomal hernias in adult patients with digestive pathologies

Abstract

Objective: To analyze and systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the use of prophylactic meshes in the primary formation of the stoma in the prevention of parastomal hernias in adult patients with digestive pathologies. Methods: The type of research was quantitative, and the study design was a systematic review. The population was made up of 20 articles and the sample was made up of 10 articles; The GRADE method was used for the assessment. Results: Of 100% of the articles, positive results were obtained for the use of prophylactic meshes in the primary formation of the stoma, since the incidence rate of parastomal hernia was lower in the mesh group (from 1.4% to 47.3%). than in the group without mesh (5.1% to 88.2%). Conclusions: 10 of the 10 articles concluded that the use of prophylactic meshes in the primary formation of the stoma prevents the appearance of parastomal hernias.

Objetivo: Analizar y sistematizar las evidencias sobre la eficacia del uso de las mallas profilácticas en la formación primaria de la estoma en la prevención de hernias paraestomales en pacientes adultos con patologías digestivas. Métodos: El tipo de investigación fue cuantitativo, y el diseño de estudio, la revisión sistemática. La población estuvo compuesta por 20 artículos y la muestra por 10 artículos; para la valoración se usó el método GRADE. Resultados: Del 100% de los artículos, se obtuvieron resultados positivos para el uso de mallas profilácticas en la formación primaria de la estoma, ya que la tasa de incidencia de hernia paraestomal fue menor en el grupo malla (de 1.4% a 47.3%) que en el grupo sin malla (5.1% a 88.2%). Conclusiones: 10 de los 10 artículos concluyeron de que el uso de mallas profilácticas en la formación primaria del estoma, previenen la aparición de las hernias paraestomales.
