Knowledge and practice of parents on asthma care at discharge from the pediatric emergency service EsSalud - 2023

Abstract

Introduction: Asthma is a condition that mainly affects the lungs and is usually a chronic disease that occurs more frequently in children, although adults can also suffer from it. This disease carries various symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, feeling of tightness in the chest and coughing, especially during the night or in the morning. There are multiple factors that can trigger asthma symptoms. Objective: To determine the relationship between parents' knowledge and practice on asthma care upon discharge from the EsSalud Pediatric Emergency Service -2023. Methods: The research approach adopted will be the hypothetical-deductive method, using a quantitative approach. The study will follow a descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design. The target population will consist of 80 parents, and convenience non-probability sampling will be used to select the study sample. In the process of processing and analyzing survey data, priority will be given to keeping the information collected organized and orderly. Subsequently, the data will be coded according to the study variables, using both the Excel 2019 statistical software and the SPSS version 26.0 program. From this coded data, a set of statistical frequency tables will be generated that will reflect the relevant indicators. In addition, the Spearman Correlation Test (Rho) will be used to examine and specify the relationship between the variables considered.

Introducción: El asma es una afección que afecta principalmente los pulmones y suele ser una enfermedad crónica que se presenta con mayor frecuencia en niños, aunque los adultos también pueden padecerla. Esta enfermedad conlleva diversos síntomas como dificultad para respirar, sibilancias, sensación de opresión en el pecho y tos, especialmente durante la noche o por la mañana. Existen múltiples factores que pueden desencadenar los síntomas del asma. Objetivo: Determinar la relación que existe entre el conocimiento y práctica de los padres sobre el cuidado del asma al alta del Servicio de Emergencias Pediátricas EsSalud -2023. Métodos: El enfoque de investigación adoptado será el método hipotético-deductivo, utilizando un enfoque cuantitativo. El estudio seguirá un diseño descriptivo, transversal y correlacional. La población objetivo consistirá en 80 padres, y se utilizará un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia para seleccionar la muestra de estudio. En el proceso de procesamiento y análisis de los datos de la encuesta, se dará prioridad a mantener la información recolectada de forma organizada y ordenada. Posteriormente, se realizará la codificación de los datos de acuerdo con las variables de estudio, utilizando tanto el software estadístico Excel 2019 como el programa SPSS versión 26.0. A partir de estos datos codificados, se generará un conjunto de tablas de frecuencia estadística que reflejarán los indicadores relevantes. Además, se empleará la Prueba de Correlación de Spearman (Rho) para examinar y precisar la relación existente entre las variables consideradas.
