Effectiveness of N-butyl-2-octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive versus other sutures in closing surgical incisions in postoperative patients

Abstract

Objective: To systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of N-butyl-2-octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive versus other sutures for closing skin incisions in post-operative patients. Method: The study was quantitative, with a systematic review design, and the population consisted of 20 articles, of which 10 articles were selected for the sample. Results: After this review, it was found that 80% of the evidence shows that N-butyl-2-octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive is more effective for closing surgical incisions as it caused less tissue reaction, achieved immediate hemostasis, recovery was painless and faster, and it provided benefits against wound infection. Additionally, 10% showed no difference as both materials had the same complications such as pain and infection, and 10% showed that subcuticular sutures were more effective in aesthetic results. Conclusion: This systematic review concludes that 8/10 studies show that N-butyl-2-octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive is more effective than other sutures for closing surgical incisions because it caused less tissue reaction in surgical wounds. Additionally, 1/10 showed no difference between NBCA adhesive and another subcuticular suture as they had a low rate of the same complications, and 1/10 showed that another suture, in this case, absorbable polyglactin suture, was more effective in terms of aesthetic results.

Objetivo: Sistematizar evidencias sobre la efectividad del uso de adhesivo tisular n-butil-2-octilcianocrilato frente a otras suturas para el cierre de piel de incisiones quirúrgicas en pacientes post operados Método: el estudio fue de tipo cuantitativo y su diseño es una revisión sistemática con una población constituida por 20 artículos se tomo10 artículos como muestra Resultados: luego de esta revisión se halló que el 80% de las evidencias encontradas evidencian que el adhesivo tisular n-butil-2-octilcianocrilato son más efectivos para el cierre de las incisiones quirúrgicas porque causó menos reacción tisular en las heridas quirúrgica, logro hemostasia inmediata, la recuperación fue indoloro y más rápido tiene beneficios contra la infección de herida, también un 10% no evidenció ninguna diferencia porque los dos materiales presentaron las mismas complicaciones dolor, infección y el 10% evidenció que las suturas subtitulares son más efectivas en cuanto a resultados estéticos Conclusiones: Esta revisión sistemática concluye que 8/10 estudios evidencian que el adhesivo tisular NBCA son más efectivos frente a otras suturas para el cierre de las incisiones quirúrgicas porque causó menos reacción tisular en las heridas quirúrgicas, como también un 1/10 no evidenció ninguna diferencia entre el adhesivo NBCA y otra sutura subticular ya que presentaron una tasa baja de las mismas complicaciones y un 1/10 evidenció que otra sutura en este caso sutura absorbible ácido poliglicolico fueron más efectivas, en cuanto a resultados estéticos
