Relationship between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease in patients at Alberto Sabogal Sologuren National Hospital, Lima, Peru, 2017

Abstract

The research titled “RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERIODONTAL DISEASE AND CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN PATIENTS AT HOSPITAL NACIONAL ALBERTO SABOGAL SOLOGUREN, LIMA, PERU, 2017” aimed to determine the relationship between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease in the study sample. Methodology: The study employed a quantitative approach, with a basic, descriptive-correlational design. A sample of 156 chronic kidney disease patients receiving care in the Dentistry department was selected through simple random sampling. Patient information was recorded, including age, gender, duration of disease, duration of hemodialysis treatment, and periodontal disease status. Results: A strong positive correlation (0.835**) was found between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease (stages 4 and 5). Additionally, a moderate correlation (0.415**) was observed between periodontal disease and the duration of hemodialysis treatment. The null hypothesis was accepted, as it was determined that there is no relationship between periodontal disease and the duration of chronic kidney disease.

El trabajo de investigación titulado “RELACIÓN ENTRE ENFERMEDAD PERIODONTAL Y LA ENFERMEDAD RENAL CRÓNICA EN PACIENTES DEL HOSPITAL NACIONAL ALBERTO SABOGAL SOLOGUREN, LIMA, PERÙ, 2017”, tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación que existe entre enfermedad periodontal y la enfermedad renal crónica en los pacientes que conformaron la muestra en estudio. Desde el aspecto metodológico, el trabajo se direcciona en un enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básica, descriptivo correlacional. Se trabajó con una muestra de 156 pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica que se atienden en el área de Odontología, seleccionados con un muestreo aleatorio simple. Se utilizó un registro de información de los pacientes atendidos, donde se describía edad, género, tempo de la enfermedad, tiempo del tratamiento de hemodiálisis y la enfermedad periodontal que presenta. Los resultados determinaron una correlación alta positiva (0,835**) entre la enfermedad periodontal y la enfermedad renal crónica (estadio 4 y 5); asimismo una correlación moderada (0,415**) entre la enfermedad periodontal y el tiempo de tratamiento médico por hemodiálisis; y se aceptó la hipótesis nula, puesto que se determinó que no existe relación entre la enfermedad periodontal y el tiempo que tiene paciente con enfermedad renal crónica.
