Effectiveness of acupressure at the wrist fold to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting in postoperative patients

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence regarding the effectiveness of acupressure in the wrist crease for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in post-operative patients. Methodology: A systematic review of international research was carried out using databases: Epistemonikos, NCBI, PubMed, Elsevier, Google Academic and Scielo, which were analyzed using the grade system. The search was carried out using DECS and MESH descriptors for the search in Spanish and English. 20% (2/10) of the articles correspond to the USA and Australia, 60% (6/10) to China, Denmark, Iran, Korea, Holland, and England. Results: 60% (6/10) of the evidence indicates that acupressure in the wrist crease is effective for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in post-operative patients, and 40% (4/10) indicates that It is not effective for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in post-operative patients. Conclusions: 06 of 10 evidence demonstrate that acupressure in the wrist crease is effective for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in post-operative patients, and 04 of 10 evidence demonstrate that it is not effective.

Objetivo: Sistematizar la evidencia respecto de la efectividad de la acupresión en el pliegue de la muñeca para la prevención y tratamiento de náuseas y vómitos en pacientes post operados. Metodología: Se efectuó revisión sistemática de investigaciones internacionales, mediante base de datos: Epistemonikos, NCBI, PubMed, Elsevier, Google Académico y Scielo, fueron analizadas mediante el sistema grade. Se realizó la búsqueda utilizando descriptores DECS y MESH para la búsqueda en español e inglés. El 20% (2/10) de los artículos corresponden a EE. UU y Australia, el 60% (6/10) a China, Dinamarca, Irán, Corea Holanda, e Inglaterra. Resultados: El 60% (6/10) de las evidencias indican que la acupresión en el pliegue de la muñeca es efectiva para la prevención y tratamiento de náuseas y vómitos en pacientes post operados, y el 40% (4/10) indican que no es efectiva para la prevención y tratamiento de náuseas y vómitos en pacientes post operados.
