Location of the mentonian foramen evaluated in digital panoramic radiographs of adult patients Lima 2021

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the location of the mental foramen evaluated on digital panoramic radiographs of adult patients in Lima, 2021. The study was quantitative, observational, and descriptive, where 217 digital panoramic radiographs were assessed using the EZDent-i program. The technique applied was observation, and the data collection instrument was a data sheet. Regarding the location of the mental foramen in the horizontal direction, the majority of patients had position 3 (59%) on the right side, as well as on the left side (60.8%), meaning that the mental foramen is located between the first and second molars. In the vertical direction, position C was found in 87.6% on the right side and 88.9% on the left side, meaning it is located apically to the line connecting the apices of the premolars. Regarding the horizontal location of the mental foramen on the right side, the majority were women who presented position 3 (31.8%), and on the left side, it was the same (33.2%), meaning that the mental foramen is located between the first and second molars. The majority of patients were between 31 and 50 years old and had position 3 (47%) on the right side and (46.5%) on the left side. It was concluded that the most common location of the mental foramen is between the first and second premolar.

El propósito del estudio fue determinar la ubicación del agujero mentoniano evaluadas en radiografías panorámicas digitales de pacientes adultos Lima 2021. El tipo de estudio fue cuantitativo, observacional, descriptivo, donde se evaluaron 217 radiografías panorámicas digitales en el programa EZDent-i. La técnica aplicada fue la observación y el instrumento una ficha de recolección de datos. Se encontró con respecto a la ubicación del agujero mentoniano en el sentido horizontal, la mayor cantidad de pacientes han presentado la posición 3 (59%) en el lado derecho de la misma manera que en el lado izquierdo (60,8%), es decir el agujero mentoniano se encuentra entre el primer y el segundo molar, con respecto al sentido vertical, la posición c obtuvo (87,6%) tanto en el lado derecho como en el lado izquierdo (88,9%), por lo tanto se encuentra ubicado hacia apical a la línea que une ambos ápices de premolares. Con respecto a la ubicación del agujero mentoniano en el sentido horizontal del lado derecho, la mayor cantidad son mujeres que han presentado la posición 3 (31,8%), en el lado izquierdo, de la misma forma con (33,2%), es decir el agujero mentoniano se encuentra entre el primer y el segundo molar. La mayor cantidad de pacientes tiene entre 31 a 50 años y han presentado la posición 3 (47%), de la misma forma en el lado izquierdo, con (46,5%).
